Last month bought my 1st blade 2010 with 3500 miles. After buying it the paddock stand bobbin on the right side was bit shaking and can see a crack. Tried to take off the bobbin and the whole thing came off leaving a big hole in the swingarm. Any advice to rectify .
Ouch. Is that on one side or both sides? I guess it could be welded (off the bike).. however it shouldn't cost that much to buy a used swingarm and have it installed. Good excuse to do some maintenance too (chain, sprocket etc).
Have it professionally welded by a reputable welder or buy a second hand swingarm, you could possibly pick up a second hand one for around the price of getting it welded. Either way it’s going to have to be removed.
My question would be....how the hell did that happen? Any other visible damage to the bike? Has it been down the road & repaired? Not trying to scare monger or anything, but can't see how this would happen.
Its just on the right hand side (Exhaust) and bought one from ebay, but looking for a more better one
Yes, bought one from ebay , but is not satisfied and will keep looking for a better one. Bough the warrior stand to keep going for now with maintenance and cleaning
Even i had the same thoughts , for welding or changing it needs to be taken off which is 150 pounds labour. Not sure welding can be so great without damaging the paint work or buy a second hand swingarm and swap it.My neighbor works in construction and he said he got welders on the site and will check with them. Is the swingarm alluminium??
I did called the seller, he says might be over tightening the paddock stand bobbin. Keep trust and enjoy the ride.
Swingarm is aluminium. Not trying to be rude but if you go down the welding route please make sure the welder is competent in welding aluminium and not just mild steel, totally different ballgame and welding ali to look good is notoriously difficult.
I would rather have another Swingarm which you should be able to find for a reasonable price then have it welded as it won’t look to good after if it’s not done right. Wonder if that swingarm has been damaged from some previous accident. Why don’t you check with @vic_ster51 if he has anything, hes always helpful
@Naz , definitely agree with you. Bought one on ebay, is not satisfied with that and looking for a better one. Once i get a nice one will try fixing it myself.
Scary. Its spanking new except that hole, feel bad to throw away and as of now dont need bobbins as i have lift stand to do my maintenance
I hear this has be fixed with noodles and super glue. But seriously that takes a lot of force to to that, you need to be proper hench with a metre breaker bar to break that whilst tightening.
Swinging arm bobbins should be banned unless you have done a training course to not mark the swing arm. Then anyone found guilty of gouging out the swing arm should not be allowed a bike anymore. Rant over, Oh just one other thing keys or other crap attached to the keyring marking the tripple clamp NO, give them to the wife to mark the car door.
Never have key rings. Just the key. And my swingarm has been marked by over zealous use of a paddock stand before I bought the bike
