Even i had been with MCE and had similar email about steering lock and a definition for garage. For me all insurance companies are same , depends on the claim, i mean if the third party agrees its there fault , our insurance companies are happy to claim what not (leaches).
No admin cost with bemoto but a hike from £176.16 to £294.02 for 10 months on a change from RR8 to a 2019 SP took a bit of swallowing. I know it's down to the insurers not the brokers, so it's a good job they offer so many extras.
To be honest that sounds more than fair you’ve gone up in insured value (making some assumptions admittedly) by about £9 or 10k
Agree with @Boothman here. The performance difference isn't going to be massive but the total loss value will be significantly higher. Even a relatively small front end bump can be hugely expensive for a 2019 SP. How much are new electronic Ohlins forks if they get slightly bent?
@Boothman your assumption was spot on (£9.5k) but as an oap with 10 years ncb and a quoted annual milage of <2500 living in the arse-end of nowhere, commonly called Isle of Thanet, with bike garaged etc.I was expecting slightly better but we'll see what next year brings.
I am with principal insurance. I had to phone them today to get cover for the new Tuono, which is being delivered next Friday. Guess what they charged me to switch to a new bike. Going from a MT 10 to the Aprilia. £224.52 to change bikes only 4 months into a renewal. Oh and that includes a £50 admin fee Well shafted...
I went with MCE this time for the first time ever, have been with Bennetts pretty much all of my biking life. MCE were about £60 cheaper @£240 for my SP which is what prompted the change, Time will tell if its money well saved!
I've been with just about every insurer in the world. I do quick check for cheaper prices everytime a policy is ending. A couple of tips though:- 1. Never just accept your renewal price and if the cost looks ok just double check the excess hasn't been bumped (1 of Mce favourites with me) 2. If a comparissite (go compare, meerkat etc) gives a good price before you buy go direct to the recommended insurer for a price BUT do it from a different machine and network. I will use my lap top on wifi to get quotes and lets say meerkat says ABC is the best price. I then go direct to ABC but on my mobile using data not WiFi. This can often get a different quote often better. A number of more sophisticated quote engines track your user IP and wont quote you a better price and can sometimes start increasing the premium very slightly to panic you into buying. If you use a different IP you can sometimes get a better deal. The airlines and holiday companies done this for years. Ever noticed when you find a good holiday price / airline ticket and everytime you log back in to check it before buying, it can start to go up in price? They have tracked tour IP and they deliberately doing this to get you to buy before it becomes too expensive. If you look at the same holiday from your neighbours computer and WiFi and will often still be at the original price you first saw. They are clever gits this lot so just play the game to save some cash.
Principle we’re brilliant when I first insured a new 600rr after being off a bike for years, cheapest on renewal as well. Soon as I went to insure the blade they were absolutely shit, think I was quoted just shy of 3k when the rest were coming up at around 4-£800
A few years back I read that they are able to tell what type of device you are using and the system makes assumptions based on that as well, using a Mac or I pad on average pushed the price up. This stuff is all beyond me I do try and get quotes of different devices as you said work laptop and then home I pad and have seen the difference although not always. Crooked gits I say, if only things could be simple and just was offered the lowest price from the start
You might be surprised or even shocked to know what a website knows about the device you are using. As well as the obvious things like OS, Browser etc they can even tell things like the screen resolution you are using. If you can be arsed there are ways to lie about it all though.
Start by looking at plugins etc that can change the user agent. You'll probably need to use Firefox as I doubt Edge/IE will let you do it, and not sure it Chrome does but then if you are interested in privacy then that is a non starter
Sadly that is very true. Just completed a form for a Covid Antibody Test survey and they even asked what my highest level of education was, as well as mobile number. OK they wanted ethnicity which I could understand as some ethnicities are more prone to the disease, but does having a degree make you more or less susceptible given that when I was at school only a few people would go on to University, and not the glorified Polytechnics that now masquerade as Unis.

Just done my renewal and MCE came up the best again but the first quotes are from compare sites and the final one and to ride other bikes(which the compares didn’t have) Is direct with MCE I’m a little bit happy now It’s the excess that really pi###s me off I was considering bike sure All for a second
That was one reason I paid £25 more The excess with them direct is £750 So better but still a rip off
