I've made a bit of a mistake... Even though I'm back on the bike now and going places I still have a bunch of jobs I invented while on lockdown. I have this high power horn sitting on the bench. I don't know why, I just saw a YouTube video that said it was a 'good idea'. OK I confess I never use the horn, it's not me, but I do like new toys. So this weekend I thought I'll fit the horn. I fiddled about and got my fingers on the old one. I can't quite see it but I can feel the cable connectors and the bolt that holds it on. So I pulled off the wires to hook them up to the new horn and try it. Yes its louder. Cool. So now I need to fit it in place of the old one. Just two push on spade connectors and one bolt. Easy. Where's "horn" in the manual? page 21-31. Right... Well you don't quite have to drop the engine out to get to it but nearly. The trouble is I can't really give up now as I can't get the plugs back on. Is there an easy way to swing that front cowl (2015) up enough to get to the bolt that holds it in? 5cms? Frankly is there any way that isn't a total voyage of discovery into dismantling things I've never touched before? Just for a horn I'll probably never use.
Lost a fairing bolt somewhere along the road last week. One of the stepped ones. Lost one a while ago as well, another one exactly the same. That time was so annoying - picked up the T-bar and in the corner of my eye spotted something hanging from the end of it. Absently flicked it free thinking it was a leaf or the likes and it wasn't 'till I heard the obvious sound of a bolt landing behind me in the grass somewhere... Searching for it involved walking barefoot, crawling around, an old arrow to prod and listen, the smegging magnetic pickup tool... ...and a couple of hours later I was at the local dealer thinking "how much!" but not saying it. This time round it's been slap-in-any-old-replacement and ordering a 10 pack of stainless stepped patterns, a 50-pack of matching non-stepped buttons heads and a 100 pack of nylon washers... ...for the price of another two or three bolts off Honda. Won a pair of Oxford F1 panniers too last night. Still have all the tags on and in the placcy bags - finished at 25 quid. I do love nigh-on quarter price brand new stuff.
Washed it and found the front side light holder is cracked. Can only assume it must have been a stone flicked up from in front. God only knows how much Mr Honda will want for a new one of them
Picked it up from James Packwood Racing near Bath/Bristol. Had KTech piston kit and flow control valve installed in the forks and the rear shock serviced. All you can see is a new red valve screw and some stickers but I have the invoice to admire. Turns out the level in the oil in the rear shock was very low. Yet to try it as only collected it this morning but looking forward to it.
Weather looks good for weekend so going to make the most of it and out for a couple of early spins then back for BSB and WSBK hopefully a good wkend for HRC.....and the Irwin brothers ,,,,Winter is coming...
Quick thought, mine has started getting slow to start when its either cold or been stood for a few days. Once its warm it starts right away, is that a service thing that needs doing?
