Replacement arrived today and annoyingly I think its too big. It does seem to fit comfortably but I'm afraid the padding will compress and it will end up too loose. So the medium was too small and the large too big. Gonna have to send it back. Thinking I should really go and try on at a shop but am probably not the right shape head for the xlite! Anyone got other recommendations for similar style helmets? What about the Bell Race Star?
Is the shell size different between the two? Maybe buy some medium pads for the large shell? It might help pad it out so that when it breaks in it will be the right size?
Hi Stuish, I am assuming the large one has a large shell compared to the medium one? I ordered from Sportsbikeshop and the only option was S, M, L or XL. Is it possible to order different size shells for a medium lid then? Sorry if I sound a bit dim but still learning as quite new to this.
Ahh, I have just looked it up, there are three shell sizes. (2XS-SM, MD-LG, XL-2XL) What that means is that the Medium and Large is the same overall shell, with different thickness cheek pads etc to size them differently. If the medium is too small and the large is too big, in this case you wouldn't be able to fix it with different pad thickness
Alan not good hearing that you can't get the correct fit X-lite nothing more annoying that getting new gear that doesn't fit perfectly especially helmets that have to be comfortable. Had a similar experience with a set of Alpinestars leathers that I purchased a few months ago had to return them, online shopping is convenient but probably better to visit a stockist and try on as many different helmets that you can until you get the right one, a lot of shops will price match so may not cost you much more and in the long run its worth it. Some of the Bell helmets look good so worth considering. Good luck with your search .
Hi Bradt yeah its really annoying cos the Xlite 803 RS carbon is the one I really wanted. Problem is finding shops that have what you like in stock. i think I'm going to have to forget having a chosen product and just see what fits out of whats available at the time. I was tempted to stick with the large Xlite but now think thats a bad move. Its got to be right.
I've got the bell race star flex dlx carbon, for my 50p head it's the best fitting helmet I've ever had, I've a cabinet with Arai rx7 and Shoei, both give me headaches. Also you can go to the dealer and change the interior padding thickness to suit your head shape in different areas.
Decided to goto the Sportsbikeshop in Milton Keynes to try on a few helmets. Great service and lots of help with the fitting. Ordered this and it's just arrived!
Thanks Lozzy. Love the colour scheme. Wasn't sure if it went with the matt black bike but I think it will be ok. Just realised they sent me a large when I tried on and ordered a medium. AAArrgghh. So much difficulty getting a bloody helmet.
Hey Lozzy, do you remember if the cheek pads loosened up at all? They sent a large instead of medium. It feels OK but if it loosens up it will be too big.
Send it back to get the medium, All padding gives and I found shoei’s actually give more than the other brands I tried. Lovely lid, my GT Air is 5 years old next year and I shall be treating myself to an X Spirit as well
Yeah I think I will. Really annoying as the bloke fitted me with a medium in the shop. It feels really light compared to my old lid (a cheap Vemar one).
doh! Must be a case of someone tried both M and L and then they got mixed up when going back in the box
Well that is all right then - 'cause if the the Large helmet fitted in a Medium box maybe the helmet has the wrong sticker on
