My fuel warning light is on all the time on 2008 cbr1000rr. I removed the brown/black wire from connector behind instrument cluster and it stayed on. My understanding is that this wire is just a connection to earth via the sensor on the pump assembly. When fuel is low, this connects to the green wire and completed the earth circuit.
I have removed pump assembly and there is no continuity between the two wires and it makes no difference if I submerge the sensor in fuel and test.
How can the circuit be complete if the brown/black wire is disconnected? Could it possibly be getting an earth from the instrument cluster?
I presume the sensor in the tank is dead as it doesn’t give continuity either in or out of fuel but this does not explain the light being on constantly. If anything it should be off and not come on at all unless it is getting an earth signal from the cluster itself.
    Hope that makes sense......Help!!!!

That’s exactly what I was looking for thanks. I have continuity on the brown/back wire so looks like it’s the cluster.
My last post was regards speedo and looks like the cluster is at fault there too so will get a replacement.
Thanks again for your help. I need to get a manual.

Will hijack the thread, as I have the opposite problem, the low indicator light is always off for me, on 2011 cbr 1000 rr, in my manual I can't find which wire it is, is it just under the tank or is it under the seat?

Edit: Ok so with ignition on the light flashes once like normal

Under the tank there are 2 connectors. One brown and one black (on mine). Disconnect the black one ( on right hand side of tank) and short the 2 pins in the loom connector together and turn ignition on. If light comes on, replace pump assembly. If it stays off, check the brown/black wire that runs to instrument cluster. There is a photo of the section in manual further up this thread.

Just to conclude this post. Managed to source a replacement cluster and fuel warning light now works as it should. Thanks for all the assistance.
