For those with a 2007 HRC colour blade, can you confirm if the LH crankcase (generator) is painted black or finished in dark gun metal grey in colour. The one on mine looks like it's been sprayed satin black at some point (not very well) so was looking to sort out either rub down and paint or replace - just want to make sure it's as original. Most replacement covers on eBay are dark grey, other than Chinese copies which are in black as well.

RH crankcase is the dark gunmetal grey, so wasn't sure if LH should be the same too (or was this an early/late production change?)

    Cheers

Perfect thanks mate, looks like dark grey to me. Have read that some earlier ones came with black, but looks like the one I have may have just been painted - will keep eyes peeled for a good replacement. Nice bike by the way - just how mines getting!

Picture of mine before winter lay up - bodywork stripped off for bit of filling, repairs and painting - so she's pretty much naked at the moment!. Whilst that's off will do valve clearances as well - might as well! Enjoy the pic, don't get too carried away now :)

Got about 44K miles on mine (bought it with 42.5K on as a project). From the paperwork that came with the bike, previous owner had valves checked as part of very expensive service about 12k miles ago - the garage noted they were on the tight side of tolerance! Wonder if they really checked or just charged for it! Waiting for my Snap On bud to get me some stepped NoGo feeler gauges but they are on back order so will check the valves when they come in, so in the meantime just stripping down slowly. Did you go to extent of getting all new cam cover gaskets and seals for yours?

Well spotted with the callipers - different colour and shape :). When i got the bike, original two piece gold callipers (same as yours) needed repainting and were seized, so instead of going down that route thought I'd do a subtle upgrade - the CBR1000RR 2008 ones bolt straight on and are Monoblock construction as well. Was lucky and got a decent set of front and rear for about £90 delivered (lot cheaper than refurbing original)

Have returned rest of the bike pretty much back to standard - even down to the original Honda bolts!, took all the 'bling' off other than the Yoshi exhaust. Front mudguard is also white - was how it came and has grown on me. Another subtle change, have fitted de-cat headers, removed O2 sensor and removed exhaust valve - even though it runs well, will get ECU tuned in the summer as seems to be running a bit rich.
Stripped and painted the wheels in the summer and had forks serviced by FTR in Essex (with replacement K-Tech springs to match my weight - as few stone heaver than 12 stones that the original are setup for). Just got the fairing to finish off now, filled in holes that were drilled for crash bungs and fixed the cracks and holes in the front fairing - will prime and paint when it warms up a bit. Oh and last but by no means least, engine casings to fit :)

Managed to get some good mileage on the bike last year in between all the fiddling - makes me wonder why i sold my old 2007 three years ago, but hey got the HRC colour now and pleasure of fixing it up!

Not replaced the offending shims yet ,,,,,, going to take it to the local expert because he has a large selection box of shims and its like second nature to him .
So while its in bits I will just load the bike into my van and wait while he does it .
Should be able to use the cam cover gasket again, ,,,,, not sure about the cam holder/clamp down (or whatever their called:rolleyes: )
    O rings .
When people are told the shims are within tolerance it makes you wonder if they do get check o_O
this why I wanted to check them myself
