Coming up to my renewal this month. Thought I’d do a few quotes, price has dropped £200 this year so far back to slightly more than where it was pre accident, best price is £165 fully comp with all mods declared and zero voluntary excess - that’s with bikesure who my current policy is with. Weirdly, after 10 mins of doing the online quote they rung and offered to be able to get me more discount on that policy. I’ve never had that happen before... is the amount of insurance policies being taken out drying up do you think? So they are eager to sell some? I’ve not had an offer of beating their own price before!! I noted that my current policy, with them, isn’t due to expire for 4 weeks so I would wait and see what their renewal is before committing; but it’s good to know I’ll be able to haggle a discount on any online price
They just make it up as they go along mate. Same as Sky TV. I hate insurance companies, the price should just be the price.
Just got my renewal from Bennett's and its gone up from £94.32 to £105.29 ,,,, don't no if i can be arsed shopping for a cheaper deal Edited to say I was arsed to shop around and got it for £86.02 full comp with Bennett's again
I bet if you just rang Bennetts and told them you’d found it for £90 they’d just match it. Reputable crowd I wouldn’t be complaining at that.
Went on MCN and got a quote from Swinton £86.40 so a call to Bennett's and they quoted £86.02 ,,,,,,, been with them for last 4 years
At that price.. are you sure you don’t live on your own private island, or perhaps it’s a Matchbox bike you’re insuring?! Wow!
I had a free year's insurance with Bennetts worth 400 odd quid. They kept failing to take a payment from my direct debit, even though it was a renewal and they'd already taken payments for the previous year. Called half a dozen times trying to sort it, kept being told they were working on it and it was an IT problem. Even offered to pay the entire amount and was told not to in case it confused matters. So every time I called I kept a record of the dates, times and people. Time passed, no contact until they sent me a stupid renewal price. So I called up cancelled, nothing was said and I walked away.
Excellent on the free year, I imagine things would have got more interesting if you had to make a claim but fortunately you’ll never know
Yep it would have been interesting and it was one of the reasons I pursued it. I got one of the advisors to state that I was still covered on one of the calls, I then wrote the date, time and name down just in case I needed to get a hold of the call recording.
Renewal dropped in my inbox today, £204 fully comp. rang them up as their best price was £165 but managed to get it for £145 fully comp. happy days.
The way I always look at is, what do you earn per hour. If you can save more in 1 hour of searching or being on the phone than you'd earn in that hour then crack on
Mine is due next month. Going around in circles again thinking do I keep it going and try to make use of it this year or let it expire and look to sell. Been in this cycle for about 3 years now
I think if I sell I will be without one for at least a year or two. I love it and will be painful to not have one but since the start of 2018 I have put less that 1500 miles on it. 2017 I had done 5k in that one year which isn't alot compared to most people but to go from that to an average of 500 a year makes me ask if i really need it. I mean I know I dont 'need' to have one but can I justify it.
I suppose it comes down to cost, in your own mind can you justify what it costs you against the joys of ownership? If you sold what would you buy again next time and would it cost you more to replace it than if you'd kept it? Basically sellers remorse I suppose. If you've had the bike a while, you're really not paying a fortune for it and you know it inside out, sometimes it can be more hassle and cost you more to replace. Unless you want something completely different in the future? I used to ride all year round. Now I don't and some years I'm lucky to get near 1000 miles. I've come to accept that I'll always have to have a bike in the garage whilst I can.
I sometimes feel like that. The past year has been exceptional though. I've done a lot fewer miles in the last 12 months - probably 5 or 600. I think about the costs involved and wonder, then I go into the garage and take the cover off her and think - Bugger! I've got so much pleasure out of her in the past, any spare time I can get out is worth it. Then, on one of the few rides I've done since Christmas I absolutely know I'm keeping!
U saw a post on Facebook about bennetts being good and cheap. Mines not sue until May but thought id do one just to see £1280 for year , 2015 blade . I paid £500 last year with bemoto. Hope thats not what I'm going to have to pay as bike will be going . Was going to get all suspension serviced but holding fire to see what the insurance is going to be first lol
Another man needing talking back from the edge I see ......don't do it tuktuk! Its almost as good as money in the bank if its neat and tidy sat in a garage. Keep it!
