Need to fit a brake lever guard as per new MSV policy for UK track days, however it looks like in order to fit the majority of lever guards I will need to remove the standard bar end weight and the inner bar weight. After consulting the Haynes manual it appears i have to remove the grip from the bar in order to stick a screwdriver through a hole in the top of the bar and lever the thing out? Does anybody know if this is indeed the case or can I just pull the thing out without the need to remove the grip? The bike in question is a 2011 Fireblade RR-B. Thanks.
Check out @dern work around post 41 in https://www.1000rr.co.uk/threads/brake-lever-guards-for-trackdays.40479/page-3
Mine came out super easy with needle nose pliers (there is a clip to press, I think one of the other guys did another thread on it as well as @dern, possibly @raphael ), getting the crappy expandable new inner to grip properly was more of a challenge... I ended up wrapping the blades in leccy tape...
Thanks for the link @Boothman very useful, have ordered some cheap chinese guards and will attempt the hack.
Thats good to know @Frazzle thanks, may have to do this if the cheaper bodge option doesn't work. If i end up having to remove the inner weight i will invest in a more permanent and aesthetically pleasing lever guard.
yeah that's what I did, figured it can stay on now.... and to be honest, getting the weight back in looks like it could be a proper mission due to the little rubber parts coming apart etc....
