I'm a big fan of Quad lock, it's good quality, very sturdy and the phone always feels safe. I've got the stem mount system, I went to fit it to the bike and unfortunately, even with its biggest spacers fitted, it will not fit the blade. Maximum spacer diameter 24.5mm, blade stem is 28.5mm. All the other options are off centre and, in my opinion ugly. Time to scratch my head and think of a fix. So I tried some rubber grommets from Tool station, at £2.27 it didn't matter if it didn't work. So using the biggest two grommets I warmed them up in hot boiling water and tapped them down into the stem, around 35mm. To be honest I probably could have got away with just the one, but opted to put the second in for extra support and to give a safety net I guess. Changed the spacers to the smallest option on the Quad lock and fitted the system. Waited for the rubber to cool down and gave it a good yank and the thing doesn't move. Well chuffed. Obviously I haven't ridden the bike with it yet, but I can't see it being a problem. Hopefully this will help someone.
Hi Charlie, Not yet. I'm torn between getting the Quad lock charger which just sits under the phone, or getting a universal charger and finding a mounting point. I'll likely bite the bullet and get the Quad lock USB. Where is yours located (if you have one)?
I was just wondering if you knew about the spare alarm socket under the seat. You can plug into that to get a switched live and neutral feed. That is something I'm not sure about yet, my bike is in hibernation for the winter so I haven't got a battery on the bike to check it all. Also the wiring diagram I have doesn't show the alarm socket unfortunately. My wiring diagram is from 2012, not sure if that alarm socket was added later on.
When you say brown and white 12v ignition Do you mean it becomes live(12v) when ignition is turned on?
I’d go for the plug in charger. Worst thing you can do with your phone battery is charge it to 100% and I guess that’s what would happen all of the time if you use it regularly. They recommend keep it between 20-80% for extended battery life and it works in my opinion. At least with a plug in you can decide when to charge it.
I went with the Quadlock plug in charger. The fit is nice and neat and with a 20cm cable you barely see it.
Bloody brilliant bit of kit. I have a note 9 so its a large screen which is perfect for a sat nat. Perfectly positioned and does not obscure the dash. Tried an app called calimoto today which can generate random journeys of a set distance. As i have no riding buddies yet, this seemed like a good idea for going on rides. Not so impressed though as it took me on some single track farm roads and lots of narrow back roads. Not such an enjoyable ride. Dodging mud, pot holes, licra lads and water on the road. Does anyone use a similar app which they would recommend?
I need a solution for a quad lock for my RR5 I had it on my previous bike and on my MTB but there doesn’t seem to be anywhere one will fit on this.
Not used the calimoto myself but remember seeing that there is a selection for the twistyness of the road. If you go down one level from what you have selected i think it keeps you on more sensible roads.
I got in touch with the developer and unlike sat navs you can not set it to avoid minor roads. Although people have put their own routes on there so i may try one of those as they are likely to be proper roads.
No because there’s no stem nut on the 04-07, that’s where the electronic steering damper sits.. there’s not enough room on the clip ons for my bar mount either
