A legend of F1 commentary who has never been surpassed - his cowork with James Hunt was something to behold.
I don't think it is a coincidence that it all started going downhill after he left F1. One of those voices that stick with you and evokes great memories.
Good old days I got chucked out of silverstone when Mansel won for dodgy tickets What a night before Dancing in the middle of a marquee with this northern lad while a beer can fight went on over us And walking down the middle of the road pissed as a parrot looking for a phone box singing “mansel, we love you mansel, mansel we love you” With the echos resonating down the road What an era
an absolute gentleman . we met him at Silverstone one year and he talked to my brother for ages like a normal guy. (James was wheelchair bound could not walk talk ect ) James thought Murray was the drives boss .
I saw him at Silverstone in 85 on the grid talking to Fredie Spencer just before the 500 gp while I was in the grandstand ,,,,,,,,, without thinking I jumped up arms in the air chanting MURRAY MURRAY MURRAY ,,,,,, he looked up and waved back ,,,,,,, the excitement got the best of me Guess ya had to be there R.I.P. Murray
