The 'Elf and safely' people decided we all needed winter tyres fitted on our cars this year. Mine were fitted on Monday. Carlos fandangooo AMG wheels and low profile rubber off. Smaller wheels and high profile tyres on. Not only does it make the car look very funny it handles like a pig. Seems to wander about in your lane on the motorway and feels like the tyres are flexing on the rims. Horrible feeling when I am used to a well planted vehicle. I asked what the speed limiter had been set at, no need I was told as you shouldn’t be driving over 70mph. Yeh right, suckers. Perfect timing, were has all the snow gone !. roll on spring……
You got the wrong winter tyres then ! Proper high quality tyres are expensive and you can get them in different speed limits ( up to 186 mph ). They handle almost the same like summer tyres but are much better in snow and cold weather up to 8 C . Also you can get "all season" tyres as well. Obviously you got the "good" Chinese rubber tyres.
LMAO. Think cost might just have a had a bearing here. No idea what make of tyres they are but the wheels are Merc alloys. I will have a look when i leave. Regards the testing I assume so as they have been supplied by MB. Perhaps I am the test driver, better put my helmet on when I hit the M11 and M25 later.
I bought a set of 20" pirelli scorpion winter tyres in error for my X5 off ebay.They only cost me £200 but they are great in winter.X5's are supposed to be crap off road but those tyres got me to places other 4x4s were struggling to get to.I've put them on another set of cheap rims and use them when the temperature drops below 10c.They are coming back off as soon as spring arrives.IMO if your tyres are good you can go anywhere.Cheap car tyres I will not buy especially the chinese ones.
OK posted this on another forum and will put it on the winter tyre thread I and looking at going from a Hyundai Santa Fe to a Hyundai i800 van/people carrier. I need room for work, and also a Taxi for staff in work when the weathers bad, Work in caring sector so it's important to be able to get into work and get staff due to snow,and when picking up stock. So a large car/van is needed. Also ideal to remove the back seats and take bikes to trackdays and for the trips to Le mans Wondering how good winter tyres are and if they would be almost as good as having a 4x4 as the i800 is rear wheel drive. Only reason for not going for this van would be the problems when we have snow and ice. Not worried about image just something that will be as good as a my Santa fe has been for the past 6 years. Also been looking at toyota hilux double cab, Kia Sorento. Not looking for anything french or Vauxhall. I won't go into why Any helpful info greatly welcome
The germans use them and most german cars and vans are rwd apart from VAG.So yes they do make it easier to get out and about when wintery weather comes.Check that winter tyres are available for that particular car too. National tyres can get you Viking, Vredstein and Continental winter tyres,they were selling these in Scotland when I worked for their distribution depots.Worth enquiring how much etc.
