I've a 2014 non ABS, 19k miles. It's got an Akra Titanium end can on, with no db killer in. So far I've had the chain and sprockets changed (done 100 miles since so may need adjusting slightly) and also changed the CCT (OEM auto one). It had R&G bar ends on but I binned them and put my brothers OEM bar ends off his 2007 Blade, actually made a bit of difference, but... Vibes are still there, it's not horrendous by any stretch but just enough to P me off. It's through the pegs bike and ends up in the bars. It's enough to give me the hump so I don't know what to try next! - I've ordered a baffle/db killer for the Akra, surely it can't be the end can? - It is very loud an bassy.. I read head stock bearings, wheel bearings can do this, clutch basket, dodgy cam chain, engine mounts etc - are the Blades actually vibe free at all? It's ok if I pull the clutch in to disengage the engine at any speed, the vibes go away so has to be engine related. Thanks in advance
Had a 2014 RRE non ABS for 6 years, it was standard down to the can, can’t say I ever noticed any abnormal vibes and that was due a CCT change when it was sold.
I see you've ordered a baffle but I don't notice any difference apart from sound on mine with it in or out. I think @bazzashadow has the same exhaust as yours
I have the same end can as you and can't say it made the bike vibey when I fitted it. If it disappears when the clutch is pulled in then perhaps have the clutch apart and check it over.
Yeah will see if that does anything or not, don't expect it to tbh but will see. I thought by getting a 2014 I'd be shot of all the issues previous models had, obviously not! - Love your SP btw. I had a chance to buy a 2016 for a good price but didn't, wish I did now!
Ahh ok good to know, was yours with the baffle in? - I can get the clutch apart myself no probs but once in there not sure what to look for apart from obvious damage. I don't hold much trust in motorcycle garages tbh as had a few bad experiences so would like to solve this one myself.
There are the service limits for the clutch springs and plates/discs for you to check. Realistically if the clutch is operating normally then you wouldn't really expect to find anything wrong. Think the basket gets grooves developing on it when it's worn. Good luck. Edited to say my exhaust is ran without the baffle.
Ironic really, couldn’t sell my 2014, and the dealer I traded it to still has it 11 months on, and it’s an absolute peach in terms of condition and treatment it got.
That's weird as I thought the 14 was the best one to get in the post crank issue era. Unless it is way over priced!
Having had more than a few Blades over the years, the 14-16 Blades were up until then, the best litre Blades they hade made, from engine to suspension, the culmination of years of development. As for overpricing, a one owner HRC colours 14k mile bike at 6K didn’t seem overpriced to me. But no biters at all on it.
Mine is carbon and no vibration issues And it never came with a baffle. I don’t think it’s load but I do notice a lot of people turn round
Ahh ok cheers, it can only point to the clutch or maybe mounts then as at any speed if I pull the clutch then it's smooth.
I'll get to the bottom of it, it might just be me, I don't know. Hope all is good with you and your bike!
Just an update, checked everything over today, all seems well. Took on the motorway and at 70/80 if you come off the power a bit that's when I get hit with the vibes through the bars, also around 5000/6000k revs. I'd say headstock bearings need changing as they clunk over bumps so maybe thats it? Or I'm thinking could be clutch... Got me stumped this one. Might just chuck it into my local motorcycle repair shop and get them to have a look.
The clunking over the bumps might be the forks. The Showa BPFs are well known to clunk a fair bit, its quite widely agreed as a characteristic of them.
