Need some new boots and torn between Sidi Rex or Alpinestars Superteck r's.

Please let me know your thoughts if you have owned a pair of either.

I've had two sets of supertech R's now, absolutely love them. Great set of boots but very pricey.

How do you get on with the inner boot thing?

Got supertechs and get on well with them. Not used Sidi Rex but have had other Sidis in the past that were good, even got used to the infamous Sidi squeak.

To me the alpinestar are comfortable out the box, the Rex I’ve got now needed some breaking in.

both great boot but would go with the alpinestar again

Absolutely no issues, feet slip in and out of them easily. Plus they have zero sqeaks! :D

I've not owned these particular models of boot but have been a long term user of SMX pluses, Dainese Torque and Sidi Vertigo.

On last the last change I tried the above but in the end went for Daytona Strive, just pipping the super techs.
The main reasons are sport oriented boots don't seem to last long for me, stitching, zip, cord failure etc. Also the plastics on them scratch up the frame and heel guards.

The Daytonas are full leather so really comfy, with the GTX lining are all year use too. Still want a pair of super techs though as they look super cool but I dont think I could deal with the inner boot thing every day!

You really don't notice the inner boot, it stays inside the boot when putting them on and off, and just a pull cord to tighten them up, used to work in Hein Gericke and tried on must be hundreds of boots for fit, the inner boot lets it mould to your foot so much tighter and snug than the others. But agree the mess around isn't for everyone

Doubt I would buy a new pair of boots now without an inner boot. Yes it is a bit more time getting ready but having seen a video a few years back from the Doctor who covered road racing I now consider them as part of the basic safety kit.

Hopefully someone on here may still have the link to the video, but if not just think of the number of times you see people who crashed and have lost a boot/shoe.

I know typical right, you ask about 2 specific boots and then you get recommendations for all sorts. ;)

I've been using Daytona's for 15+ years and I'd now only buy a different brand if they were a 2nd occasional pair.

In that time I've only owned 3 pairs because they easily outlast the likes of A*. I've had 2 x Roadstar GTX and a pair of Security Evos. I'm still on the 2nd pair of Roadstars and I couldn't even tell you when I bought them now. The last pair went in the bin when I'd managed to walk through the soles. This pair have been down the road and they barely scuffed the front of the toe.

I always saw Daytonas as really expensive but will give them some thought. Thanks for your input.

Kirk, not sure what size you are, if you decide on supertech’s I have got these if they are any good to you, £200 delivered to Uk mainland address. All the zips, buckles and inner boot laces are in perfect condition, the only minor marks are on one toe slider and the heel sliders as you can see in the photos
As you can see they are euro 46 size which I think is uk12, I’m a size 11 and these fit perfect, still got the original box which they will be posted in, if they are good for you pm me and I’ll send you over a PayPal money request via friends and family, they will be sent via tracked UPS

    cheers

I have seen that video, I think it was just audio but like you said, a video on YouTube. I thought his point about boots coming off was it is a phenomenon that can happen when you get a really badly broken fib/tib. It somehow allows the foot/leg to rotate itself out of the boot? I thought he talked about arriving to a scene and using missing boots as an indicator of a bad break. Maybe I've mis-understood.

I just bought new boots, Got the Alpinestars smx plus v2, which is one down from the super techs,
Also has an inner boot, but attached to the main boot, Very please with them.
    I usually take a size 44 (10 UK), But with Alpinestar boots I take 43 (9 UK)
    Possibly worth a look at.

IIRC it was about hyper extension of the foot/ankle. Def a video as I remember him discussing it regarding an accident on a track.
