Hi guys, After 90 miles on the blade (RR6) yesterday I had tingling fingers no doubt from the vibrations and was wondering what options for grips and weights you can recommend? I know I do have a habit of gripping the bars which I need to stop but was wondering if there are options other than that to help. I also need to adjust my riding position as I do tend to put a lot of weight on my wrists - I have some Eazi Grips to put on the tank to help me try and shift some of the weight. Thanks in advance.
I have an rr7 and this doesn't happen so unless there's something wrong with it it's unlikely to be fixed with grips/bar end weights. To be sure though you could get the front wheel balanced, especially if it's well worn. It's worth checking the condition steering and wheel bearings to make sure that they're all working fine and not vibrating (wheels bearings) or making the steering more difficult (steering bearings). If all that is good then you'll need to work on your grip and body position. Ideally you should be putting no weight on the bars at all. If you're holding yourself up on the bars than you'll be making it a lot harder work. Either work on your core strength so you can support yourself without the bars or you could slightly improve the situation by raising the bars a bit. However, unless you can support yourself using your legs and core it's always going to be knackering. Grips may make a difference but not much if you're gripping the bars too hard. You should hold be holding them lightly but if you're supporting yourself with them you probably aren't. You could try some grip puppies that can help you grip less as they make the grips wider opening your hands up. They also grip well. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the advice I think I need to get the Eazi Grips on and work on my body position before I start making changes to the bike. This is the 1st time I’ve ever noticed this happen on this bike, ok I’ve only done around 600 miles on the bike since ownership last year. Thanks
I use heavier stainless steel bar end weights from Oberon on a few bikes, you can also pump some silicon into the clipon tubes which helps.
Have you changed gloves recently. This happened to me before after getting new gloves that were a bit tight.
As above. Thinner summer gloves obviously do not absorb vibes as much as padded winter one. Grip puppy is extremely effective but may not be suitable for small hands.
Yes I’ve recently bought new gloves and it could be that I had the strap abit too tight around the wrists. they are also race type gloves, but my previous ones were.
You will definitely get pins&needles like sensations if you restrict blood flow at the wrist + finger swelling Feel the inside of your gloves and compare them. Perhaps try cotton glove liners Off course could be a mechanical reason. Have you done anything to the exhaust or engine mountings
I had the same problem when I first got my RR6. After about 70miles I would get the tingly fingers. The pins & needles would only happen in my right hand, mainly in my outer 2 fingers. Thought it was my grips or gloves. But I have several pairs of gloves, none of which are tight! But after taking to several people, it turned out it was my riding position. I adjusted where my ass was on the seat, more centralised, made sure my back wasn't twisted and it all went away. Apparently it's all to do with the nerve endings. If you're not sat right (more pressure on one cheek than the other) or your back is twisted, this causes pins and needles in hands and fingers. My friend had back problems and would get P&N all the time. He was on the verge of selling his ride as it was just to much for him to handle. He saw a chiropractor & had physio and after a while, the P&N went away. And he kept his ride. Hope that helps.
