the 2008> model silencer had the buit in CAT.
At some point, honda removed the CAT from it and positioned upstream (year XXXX). Is this correct?

    Now the crunch quenstion:

Would the later silence from year XXXX fit the original 2008~11 bikes??

Reason? Should I want to replace my OEM silencer, I could also look at later year version as I am not too bothered about the CAT

Seems to get asked most weeks this question. The 08-13 bikes had headers that had 50mm exit aperture and 14-16 it was 60mm. 08-13 had CAT in the end can and 14-16 it was in the headers.

    Thanks Charlie.:)
I was aware of the physical differences but didn’t know when the cat location had changed.
Ps Would you know apart from the header diam, if the 14> silencer fits <13 bikes?

I think it does, but no first hand experience to say for certain.

I fitted an Austin Racing exhaust from a 2014 onwards to my last bike which was a 2009, I had to make up a reducer from 60mm to 48mm and luckily it had a boss for the O2 sensor as far as I'm aware this isn't always the case and either you need to borr and weld one in or fit an O2 delete sensor. Either that or change the headers which I believe fit but haven't personally tried.

    60 to 48 is a serious reduction

Half the area so the gas has to double its speed.
    That's not an adapter, that's a strangler.

It goes out through the 48mm stock exhaust into a 60mm one so it's not strangling it but it's probably causing the gasses not to flow smoothly

because of my lack of knowledge, I consider exhaust tuning a black art:rolleyes: but know air pressure waves propagation create reflection and any impedance change.

but wheather the 48>60 expansion is part of the tuning, is beyond me. Only honda design guys can tell:)

No mate it's just the fact that 2008-13 bikes have a smaller diamete 48mm exhaust and 2014 onwards are 60mm so if you want to fit a later pipe to an earlier bike you will have to make up a reducer and possibly weld on a boss for the O2 sensor the exhausts fit fine and I never noticed any real power difference or flat spots so the difference in diameter doesn't seem to have much of an effect
