Wouldnt it have donr it on the trip too work aswell? I did. Didnt touch any connectors other than the rear indicators, tail light and numberplate light though. i didnt have any of the fairings off, only the tail seat cowl.
CD posted today mate should have tomorow... Maybe it will give you some pointers.. Connectors is first point of call... I hate intermittent faults!
thats what im going to do mate. Read the manual, disconect all the relevent plugs, one at a time and clean them with some brake cleaner and squirt some wd40 onto them.
Can't be much mate, kpone may be correct with the dry joint but if thats the case you will be looking at ECU or Dash as thats where most of the electronics are (ECU is sealed), if its heat failure of a component like an IC or Transistor then that may be a right pain to find and can only get worse as the weather warms up in that case you can best hope it packs up all together! I guess on a good note it runs norm mode and not limp but you loose the HESD..

Oh do they! Now I had made the assumption that it did not, or was intermittent.. I would take off the tank cover mate and lift the tank check the HESD connections and look at the speedo sensor wires/connections too, it could be that the pulse from the sensor is intermittent and the ECU shows this as a fault with the timings but the speedo "seems" to be working, it will only take a small error with the timings to throw up an error code, also if you stop when the error flags up and shut the bike down and restart does the error go? If so for how long?
Yes mate but not much on the blade, I ride a Z1000 o XJR most of the time for the bike meets as I look at Sat/Sun and Wed summer days and nights as a fly trap for plod so ofter ride the blade any other time! Also some right numptys bumping into bikes and whacking stuff when they dissmount at busy times at Loomies and Alton cafe' but I love to pop along with my partner for a coffie and a chat!
The weather got the better of me this weekend so only had time to clean the bike. It hadnt done it since wednesday so wasn't too fussed about looking. It done it again today didn't it. :-( Pulled over as soon as i could, Reading the same error code. Switched off and re-started. Error gone. Came back on aproximatly 4 miles later, I was going down a hill at this point so i just pulled the clutch, turned the key off and on and restarted and carried on. It again came back on 1 mile later. What gets me is it will not happen on my way to work and it didn't happen thursday or friday. Will definatly be checking all the connections this weekend for sure.
I hate trying to diagnose a fault . I cant get decent sleep as it bothers the crap out of me . Reading every search hit on google and confusing the crap out my self . Normally ends up being the first answer i found lol Hope you get it sorted with out to much fuss pal
Im going to go down the simple route first, Going to dissconect every connector i can find, one at a time and clean them with brake cleaner, a spark plug cleaning brush and wd40 them. Im riding this bike in all weathers so it wont do any harm even if it dosn't cure the problem. Failing that i will order another speedo sensor of ebay.
Good move mate, got to be something silly! Now don't quote me on this but I think from memory (40% sure) the speedo sensor is down the back of the motor? So maybe she has some salt/electrolysis causing a poor connection, like I said the pulse will not have to miss many counts to cause an error!
