Hi again I was just wondering what tyres to fit before I put her into hibernation for the winter..seen a lot of videos regarding makes and sizes and 1 thing that stands out is a lot of people are saying the bigger 190-55-17 are brilliant for the bke..is this true? As a lot are also saying the 190-50-17...I'm torn between the 2..and I was looking at the pirelli angels gt..can someone help please, thanks tyres are for my 2005 1000rr repsol blade
I run a 55 on the back of my 2007 and I like it better than the 50. It's been a while now since I made the switch but I remember it making the bike slight sharper to turn. There have been no downsides. I just use mine on track now though.
A bit quicker to turn in and a slightly improved contact patch at higher lean angles. Absolutely no negative effects, and after my first time using the 55 profile there is no reason to revert back to the 50. I have the 2014 blade but I don’t imagine the 2005 would have any downsides to the change.
Thanks again for your expert knowledge…my decision is made…what do you think on the make and manufacture of the tyres ? The Pirelli Angels GT 2 or the Michelin pilot power ? Thanks you
Thanks so much for your advice…much appreciated…what tyres in your opinion would you recommend? Thanks again
Yep, I run a 55 aswell on a 07 , noticed easier turn in when I first put them on , just feels so normal now . Don't think I'll ever go back to a 50 , no problem getin it over on the edge either. also makes the Speedo more accurate
Not had the chance to try that many tyres to be honest, I just find a tyre that works for my riding style and the roads which I frequently use, and I stick with them until something better comes along. There’s many good tyres available now and different people have different options. The Michelin Pilot Power was a great tyre in it’s day, but it’s been out for a while now. I used the Pilot Power 3’s for a couple of years and thought they were pretty decent until the Power RS came along. RS’s had great grip and feel on all road surfaces wet or dry, change direction quick and stable under heavy braking. The RS’s have been discontinued now so I’ve got a pair of Power GP’s for next year. Definitely get other people’s opinions, do a bit of research and make a choice which is right for you.
Wow…there’s definitely some experts on this forum, love it! I didn’t know the pilot power had been out that long, just looked…I’m now homing in on the pilot 3’s after your advice…I only had the bike in July and it came with the battleaxe front and rear,I’m completely new to tyres etc..like I said in a previous post,it’s been 20 years since I had a 600 and I didn’t have a care in the world back then but to just ride like a bloody idiot, hence why I got rid in less than 4 months!!now I’m a bit more sensible and a lot more careful..so just want to enjoy everything about the bike and get it the best it can be..thanks for your recommendations.
I tried a 55 profile rear on my 06 Blade, the bike turned much faster , but made the bike feel very nervous on very fast long sweeping corners an lost the planted stable forgiving feel of the standard setup. It was not for me .
Loved the 55s on my RR5, makes the bike turn in faster and gives more grip on full lean, worth a go mate here is me at lean on track with the 55s on a track day.
Thanks a lot mate, that’s definitely made me feel a lot more confident, and fantastic picture by the way AWESOME thanks again.
