Anyone changed 2020+ 'Blade tyre size to 190/55?

    Hey everyone!

    Had a look around numerous websites and hearing different information so thought I'd reach out here.

    2020 Fireblade SP stock tyre sizes are 200/55 17"
    I'll be due a tyre change soon and I ride most of the year.

    Used to use Michelin Road 5's on my previous bikes and love them but they only go up to 190/55. After this I considered the Michelin Power 5's instead.


    However, now the Road 6's are upcoming, I've been thinking more about them. Again only issue is the sizing of 190/55 max.

    Main question is, has anyone seen or heard of any issues specifically on the 2020+ model Fireblade (SP) going from a 200 tyre down to 190?
    Any issues on traction control or handling, turning in etc?

    Mainly road riding but hoping for a couple of beginner track days this year.

    doesnt the new blade have any options on the menu to change tyres and sprocket sizes ?

    for my opinion keep it the size 200/55 why
    becouse the constructors have made it all for many of the reasons like geometrick, dynamick etc
    so 190 could be feel the bike absolutly different on the corners also 2020 ecu maybe read this like issue

    I expect a modern traction control has a tolerance & learn function if nothing but to cope with tyre wear which affects it's OD.
    Check the OD between the 190 & 200 and diameters at lean angles (towards the edge).
    Next would be to get honda technical guys to comment on the change.
    IMO 200>190 is a big jump. PErhaps 195??

    That’s annoying. Especially as there’s no (announced) changes to the electronic systems as far as I know.
    I assume that option is all software based?

    I'll find out soon as I'll need to drop mine in for a recall and they're loaning me a '22 for the day

    Update on this, they don't have their 2022 model bike yet so won't be finding out for a while I guess :(

    To all the various questions above. Power 5's are a great tyre for the road, wet conditions and I've used them on track too with little bit of grip lacking there, however pushing 200BHP through the rear tyre will do this.
    You can't change the tyre spec or sprockets in the standard ECU unless you get it mapped by a specialist or HRC ECU.
    On one track day a bike hire company had put a 190/60X17 wet (205/55X17 not available in wets) on the rear of their bike and that didn't cause any problems with the traction control as the circumference of that tyre is the same as the 205 due to the 60 profile and not 55.
    Personally I've put the Power GP's on mine for the road/damp track and Power Cup 2's for dry track use but have used these on the road too, super grippy tyre just like the GP's but with more edge grip and slick like.
    Hope this information helps you and help to answer more questions if anyone has any, have learnt a lot from having my 2020 Blade from new with road and track riding.

    Wasn't so long ago everyone was asking if they could fit a 200 section tyre from the standard 190 section lol, also whether you could safely go from the old Blades 50 profile to the more common 55 used by all their competitors!

    A 190 will be more than fine for the road if it suits your preference of Tyre choice.
    A 200 section was really Track driven tbh and is no benefit on a Road only going machine.
