My workmate's son was given a fiesta 1.4 diesel by his uncle and he wanted to insure it once he'd passed his test, which also happened to a week before his 18th birthday.
The best price they could get was just shy of £2600 and thats living in Cornwall which has probably got one of the lowest insurance loadings for the area.
The day he turned 18 the price dropped the best part of £550.

Is it any wonder why some people drive uninsured!

A lad who works for me was getting quotes on his corsa 1.2...£2,500 was the cheapest. He's sold it and done his cbt and bought an NSR 125, £300 to insure it.

It's never right, plus in the depths of Cornwall (i'm sure a lot of rural counties are the same) some smaller towns and villages only have a 2 or 3 buses a day.
I'd imagine getting to a place of work more than a few miles away must be quite a challenge.

Steve, don't think of it so much as him getting his independence. Think of it more as you regaining your evenings and not having to ferry him and his mates around. And, the added bonus of another number you can call for a free taxi ride home from the lash.

I told a mate once who was quoted mega money on insurance when he was young, that it's not just the price to cover damages but also if they hi another person they could injurer them thus causing huge legal fee's for injures

Saying that if most young people knew how little it cost in insure kit cars more would be trying to find a kit car of some sorts to drive. I'm not talking lotus 7 rep but a normal looking kit car with roof and heater.

I really don't know how young people manage to get o the road and why about there is a huge difference between 17 & 18 for insurance.
