Hi All, I bought a cbr1000rr SP 2016 early last year. I love the bike but I had a couple of near misses spinning up the rear tyre on track. Mostly when it's not quite wet and not quite dry. I decided to fit some traction control as a bit of backup. I know nothing will save you from being ham fisted but i've heard good things about the gripone iside 2 so i've gone for it. If it saves me once it's worth it. I'm confident with the installation but if anyone has any photos of where they have installed the kit on their bike it would be really useful? Also any general comments from people who use the system would be more then welcome. I'll upload my photos of the install and how it feels once i've fitted it. Cheers, Paul
I have the previous version (Leone), which works without wheel speed sensors installed on my 2008. I love it so far. I have some tips that may or may not apply to the ISIDE as the maps and software are a bit different: 1. Not sure if it's included with the ISIDE, but definitely get the usb cable and download the software so that you can fine tune the settings if necessary. Better to have it and not need it than to not have it if you feel you need to make tweaks. 2. Definitely purchase the DAM (Data Acquisition Module) this is invaluable to determine not only what the TC and WC are doing, but you can also see the effect your changes have on the system. 3. Per, the instruction, make sure you mount the ECU/IMU in a good location. With the Leone the IMU is separate from the ecu which made mounting easier. I velcro'd it to the top of the tip sensor mounted to my Tightails fairing stay, which was the perfect location. 4. Replace the included buttons with a high quality switch pod. This is the weakest link of the system in my opinion and would not survive a crash. 5. Replace the included light with a brighter one, especially if you want to be able to see when the system is active when recording video. The included one gets washed out in ambient light and is very hard to see in videos. ***Keep it @ lvl 5 to begin with and disregard the rest of the tips unless you feel like it's holding you back. I have never felt the bike step out on me with the base map @ lvl 5, even with worn tires.**** 6. If you feel like it's intervening too much when mostly upright, it's most like the wheelie control. However the only way to know for sure is by examining the DAM data since the light activates for both events. This way you target just the WC settings instead of the buttons which reduces both. 7. Understanding the remote buttons (could be different for the Iside) The highest setting (lvl.5) is equal to the settings(TC&WC) in the base map. Each level down from there represents a reduction in the settings of the base map. How much of a reduction you get per level is determined by the "remote step" setting. (This came directly from Diego) 8. Don't forget to adjust the TC level for the conditions (rain, worn/cold tires) if you use the buttons to reduce it. Ask me how I know lol. The Leone by default had quite a big difference between levels. I have since reduced the step value so that there is some overlap between levels. The only way I was able to figure this out was be comparing the DAM session files at different levels so you may have to experiment.
Thanks, that's really good advice. Seems like the Iside is a similar system. I've got it installed but there seems to be a problem with the unit (remote LED won't illuminate). Waiting to hear back from Gripone but hoping it's resolved soon so I can get out and test it!
I will admit there are some quality control issues when it comes to the wiring. My green button stopped working and it is due to a bad pin crimp at the connector. I had to get creative to get a good connection, but have yet to receive a reply from Diego when I inquired about a replacement loom. I'm sure the fact that he's busy with the MotoGP season doesn't help either. To be fair, there are times when I've gotten really quick responses from him as well.
Sorry massively late reply as I had missed this. I've had so many loom issues (similar to openacan) I've given up. I've stripped out the system now which is a shame as I had high hopes.
