Just looking a 2019 Blade. Can anyone tell me what electronics you get i.e. traction, quick shifter etc and if the ABS on these is to be avoided? I'd be looking to track it.
Mine's a 68 plate reg in 19 so pretty similar I think. AFAIK the abs on them is fine as it's the BMW type? The traction control/ power modes/ engine braking etc all seem good to me but I tend to keep within my limits. QS was optional but works well and makes all the difference when you want to get a move on. You're probably a much better rider than me but I don't think you'd be disappointed.
Thanks bladey. I would be planning to rely on the traction control a bit due to the extra power. Does the traction work according to the lean angle too as I think the R1 uses Yaw sensors to moderate power as well as using the ABS wheel speed sensors. I'm assuming they also have anti wheelie?
Anti wheelie input depends on which mode you are in but you can alter the settings to your own prefs as well as keeping one of the presets if you prefer. I usually keep in a preset for everyday riding, can't be arsed to fiddle when they suit me anyway. On the track I would expect you would fine tune that to different circuits.
The bike in the pic looks like a 2018 model. There were some changes for the 2019 model https://www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesoci...-fireblade-updates-x-adv-gold-wing-eicma-show
Yeah it was registered in March 2019, but could be a 2018 model. I don't know them well enough to tell. I read the changes were separating the traction and anti wheelie, plus a few other tweaks.
The world according to Honda’s workshop manual. Looks like the TC is not linked to the IMU. In reality, it does work when leant hard over but is a safety net rather than something you can lean on. It works for me but as you know first hand, I’m very much a road rider that only has a play on track.
That's all very interesting for a very non techie like me and it does make me think about some of the reasons the prices of these bikes is so high.
That 2nd to last page looks great. Looks like you can really play with the power Unfortunately that bike has been sold, so the search continues
It was up for £8500 after a dealer offered £8300 as a trade in. Ideally I'd want one that's already a track bike, but I'd be tempted to sell all 3 of my bikes as a good track bike would replace my 2 track bikes and my road bike doesn't get enough use, so I'd probably go down to 1 bike, insure it and get a daytime MOT. Ideally I'm looking for 2016 onwards R1 (R1M if I can get one), Blade, or BMW S1000RR.
I remember there being grumblings about the throttle and some other little things on the 17/18 which they tweaked and sorted supposedly for the 19 so might be worth getting that if one comes up
RC45 wrote quite a bit about the issues https://www.1000rr.co.uk/threads/2017-18-ecu-thread.37550/page-4#post-498754
Reading that explains why the standard road bike was always said to be ok. It looks like it's only an issue when you start changing tyre & sprocket sizes, which is exactly what you do to a track bike
