Last time at Donnington I did notice a bit of fade towards the end of the day. Made me think these are probably not the best pads for track riding (fast beginner/slow inters pace). The pads are probably the originals that came with the bike (it's done less than 6 thousand miles), so I am guessing they are OEM. What are peoples recommendations for my use case? (50/50 road/track).
You'll get no brake fade if you use EBC GPFAX pads and Motul RBF600 brake fluid. This is only for the track though. If you need a mix of both then use the same fluid as you'll never boil it, but perhaps switch pads between road and track as fade free carbon pads tend not to work well from cold or wet conditions (although I still ran my GPFAX pads on wet track days). FWIW if you can hold out then I may have a spare set coming up when my bike sells
EBC make EPFA pads that seem to be between the regular HH and the GPFAX pads. EBC say they’re for road and track. It’s probably these that I need?
I don't know those particular pads, but bear in mind that anything dual purpose will be a compromise. If you truly want a fade free pad for track then the only way is with a track focussed pad otherwise you'll end up with a sporty pad that works fine on the road, but will overheat and glaze over on track, resulting in fade. If it were my money then I'd invest is a decent set of track pads and swap them over between Trackdays as changing pads doesn't take long.
Nobody has mentioned SBS brake pads? They seem to be the go-to if you want the next step up, highly rated.
Sbs are very good pads, my go to pads usually in rs or dc spec, brembo sc are very good cross over pads as well.
Track only cant go wrong with sbs dual carbons as long as its dry. Track and road I uses sbs race sintered
I use the SBS Dual Carbon and they are amazing on track when in the right heat range. You need to be careful if you wanted to change out for road pads as the transfer film for carbon pads would need to be removed every time. Better to get a faster road pad if you are 50/50. You'll never get your carbon brakes up to temp on the roads unless you are doing really stupid speeds.
I fitted the pads and took the bike to Donny. Much better than the previous pads and no fade either. I’ve got some on order for my 748 now.
If its track only dual carbons are mega but ypu have to clean discs before using and also have to change them if it rains but in dry they are mega
