So after a few weeks of my RR6 not being able to climb past 8k rpm I found the root cause was a simple fuel line kink. My problem now is stopping the line kinking every time the tank comes down! Rough location of the kink marked below in red: My existing fuel line is toast as the kink seems to be formed into the line now but I want to avoid doing the same thing to a new fuel line. Any suggestions on a way to prevent this beyond just being careful when putting the tank down? There seems to be a lot of tension in this section of the line as it bends back on itself, primarily from the various vent hoses and metal brackets in that area of the tank... Cheers
Weclome to the forum. I'm wondering if the age of the line is partly responsible for the kink in the first place. Do you know if it has ever been changed? On some vehicles you can sometimes see a type of spring fitted over lines to prevent this sort of thing, but I'm not sure it's necessary in this case if you replace it with a good quality (or OEM) part.
Thanks for quick reply, as far as I'm aware never been replaced. Had the bike since 12k miles (now 20k) so can't imagine PO had changed it. Seems to be a semi-common problem on these bikes as a few other threads mentioning it. Perhaps a new line will be fine by itself but last thing I want is to shell out for a new line only to kink it straight away!
Hi and welcome to the forum - @Selmer50mark had a similar issue with his RR7 but I’m not sure if he changed the fuel line or not
My RR7 had an intermittent problem not reving past 8k when giving it a full twist in the lower gears , the last thing i did was I removed the pump to check over but when I put everything back I left the banjo bolt No 26 in the pic loose to swivel the pipe in a better position then nipped it up . Never had a problem since . Hello and welcome by the way
Will give that a go and see. I did notice the banjo on the bottom of the tank was 'twisted' the opposite way to hose direction... Believe so yep. Will get a picture next time I've got the tank up and share. Seem to remember I actually have an additional bracket which is fitted to the right of the white 'RR' marking in that picture. Fuel hose goes through it then bends back on itself.
Long delay since last Post due to moving house, but thought I'd update. I'm the process of riding the bike to the new place the kink has gotten even worse so decided to just try and replace the hose. On order now and will try to fit in the next few weeks then feedback on results...
Did my best to get some pictures today of current (problematic) setup: Seems like all brackets are there. Took a picture of when the tank is down and you can see the fuel line wraps around the tank drain/vent hose, does anyone know if that is the intended routing? I've tried to label the pic up so you can see what's going on...
Made some more progress on this today. Replaced fuel hose with a second hand one sourced online. Noticed the thick rubber tubing around the fuel hose was sat further up the hose towards throttle bodies. I think this is intended to act as anti-kink wrap and somehow it's moved on my existing hose. This left an area exposed near fuel tank end which is where I was getting the kink. Seems obvious now I've seen it Bike isn't in a condition to ride at the moment so final test will be in a few weeks once everything is back together...
Update on this front - managed to test the bike today with the new fuel hose. Unfortunately still having the bogging down between 8-10k rpm Will start a new thread to diagnose further....
