If you remove all the pipework of the old C-ABS and fit new direct hoses suddenly that 'obvious' grounding point on the bolts that hold the servo under the seat aren't grounded any more and a lot of your fancy add-on toys stop working. No Tom-Tom, no cameras and, worst of all, no Quick shifter. First time back on the bike after a bit of surgery in early summer so I felt all at sea. Well that's what I thought it was. Until I realised I had forgotten to check the tyres and the front was way down so no wonder it steered like a haywain on mud.
And as a follow up.... I lost one of the bolts that hold the seat down. It's been in pieces for too long. 8( So I decided to make another. The original is the most annoying thing anyway as you all know. Tucked away at the bottom of a hole so that it's a pig to fit and worse to remove. Being part of a motorbike you can't just pick things up and shake it to get it out. So here is my replacement. Yes it sticks out so it almost touches the trim panel that hides it. Yes it has a 4mm hex socket hole as well as being made from 13mm spanner friendly bar. In fact I'm so please with it that I'm going to make another one for the other side. And I will hardly be annoyed at all when the original turns up tomorrow.
They look great Nigel, and i fee your pain with those seat bolts. When they go wrong they are very difficult. Your design looks a much better alternative. Let me know if you go in to production and I’ll happily swing by and become your first customer!
Nice words but doing the first one was exploration. Doing the second was getting things balanced. Any more would be work. Sorry an' all.
I know the pain with those bolts. You need to use philips or JIS heads and not pozi which can damage the head. I also find they work loose so a dab of purple loctite is what I use. for those without machine tools, You can buy readymake pan head hex bolt with the correct shoulder spacer
