I was riding the other day and I turned the bike off with the kill switch while sitting at some lights and not wanting the bike to get too hot and then after 1 minute I went to turn it back on and it wouldn't start again. It just cranked and cranked but it didn't cough or anything. Like no spark or no fuel. When I got it home I started investigating. I figured the only thing I did was turn the kill switch off so I started there. The kill switch primes the fuel pump so I know the switch is fine. I can switch it on and off and I can hear the fuel pump priming each time. I have fuel at the injector rails but no spray through injectors. If I spray some fuel directly into the trumpets it fires up until it uses it all. I have checked TIP sensor, stand and neutral sensors and all fine. Fuses all look fine, I can hear the relays clicking when I turn the kill switch on. I don't have any fault lights on the dash. The spark plugs are just under a year old but I was riding it and everything was fine (until it wasn't). I don't know what else to try but I guess I will send the ecu in to get looked at like one of the other members did as I am out of ideas and stuck without my bike.
Why not whip the fuel pump assembly out of the tank for inspection ? You’re able to hear her working but that’s just the pump energising. If the mesh filter is blocked then you won’t be going anywhere. There is also a what looks like a pressure switch which sits on the top of the pump. You can disassemble all of this and check it. The large black case on the other side of the pump housing also has a filter within it but this cannot be inspected without butchering it. Nothing you can do about that unfortunately. Just my thoughts mate, have a check and don’t worry about the electrical connections when you put it all back together whilst you wonder about fumes in tank and a potential spark lol Best of luck mate and keep us updated please.
True. I did that last night as I couldn't come up with anything else to try. I put it all back together and still nothing. I removed the fuel line before the injectors to see if fuel is pumping which it is.I then removed an injector and also had fuel in the rail. thanks for suggestion though,
Factory manual, work through it in order and don’t move on until you are 100% satisfied each point has been eliminated. Best not get too hung up on the idea the problem was caused by your actions, coincidences happen. Good luck and keep us updated.
I haven't had a chance to get back to it but I will tonight and yes I will start from the beginning thanks.
Has the bike fallen over/been in it's side? if so the tilt sensor will need to be unplugged for approx 5-10 seconds and re plugged in to reset. Worth a try.
No it hasn't but I reset it anyway. So new update, still not starting however I have spark, I have working side stand, I have working neutral switch, I have reset TIP/BAS sensor, I have pulled the kill switch apart although I know it is working because when I turn it on with the key on, the fuel pump primes and when I turn it off the fuel pump stops priming.I have put fuel in it, I have fuel pump priming and fuel at the secondary injector rail. I have charged battery. I don't have start. I haven't got a tool to test pulses on the injectors but I feel something is stopping the injectors from working. If I unplug 1x injector the bike won't even crank but if they are all connected the bike cranks but doesn't even think about coughing or firing/turning over. I spray start ya bastard (starter spray straight into trumpets and it starts and runs happy until it runs out of spray. I have checked the 2x fuses near the battery, and all the fuses up the front left. I know it is something ridiculous but for the life of me I can't work it out. I feel without a cable to test the ECU I will have to send the bike in to the shop (which pisses me off because I thought I was better than that). Any final suggestions anyone before I give up and put it on a trailer to the shop? Thank you
You said you was getting fuel at the injectors, But it won’t start but does start on start you pig If it starts on start you bastard then it sounds like the vacuum tap
I can't see any vacuum lines that are disconnected. Tap seems fine. I am about to strip wiring harness back to see if I have any wires burnt or shorting somewhere
Head scratcher for sure. I had a bike in the past, not a blade, that I couldn’t get to start for the life of me. After I verified it had fuel, spark and air the only thing left was timing. Eventually I traced it to a timing sensor. An engine can have everything it needs to start but if they don’t all happen together at the correct exact nanosecond then it won’t run.
So it sounds like a signal to injectors problem to me? Bike starts when provided with starter fluid so you know spark, air supply, timing, etc is OK. You've confirmed you "have fuel at second injector rail" but does that just mean you have presence of fuel or have you measured fuel pressure and fuel flow rate? If not measure those, if they're OK then you know for sure it's a signal to injector problem. Might be worth trying to see any error codes for the FI system: Report back with the number of blinks if you see any and we can diagnose based off that.
Yep but most people wouldn't check the ECM error code memory - just look for a solid FI light.... If there is no code as expected then it rules out a number of things so still a useful diagnostic step.
True B, I think I just assumed he has the factory manual and has exhausted the easier diagnostics. I’d actually be happy if he came back and said he has found a fault code through the menu, otherwise I think it’s heading for an ECU
Me too. Unfortunately I didn't get any errors. But I like the fuel pressure issue. I didn't change the fuel pump a few months back. Has been working since but that doesn't rule out somehting I did that was just sitting idle for a period. I will check that shortly. thank you
Interesting note though. I have bike on race stand. I don't remember if I put side stand down and it says wont show if stand not down. I will get in fromt of it and try again. I have tried so many things maybe I did read that and did but I want to make sure now. thank you
