Can anyone tell me why in bad weather the teachers don't go to work but all the parents employers expect them to go to work and they now have to cope with the weather and childcare
As a retired teacher - yeah yeah I know - the school couldn't close unless the county council said so. Head either got the order from HQ or asked for permission due to not enough staff being able to get there. HQ always had to consider the kids within their H&S rules which they appeared to be afraid of. So two options. Keep it open and a kid gets run over by a car in the snow and get pilloried, close and have parents take responsibility and get pilloried. I know what you mean though, now as a grandparent I get asked to child mind if their school closes so son can go to work. It's a difficult one to solve.
I would have thought the schools responsibility starts once the children have gone through the gates and not outside on the road,
Don't want to take funny pics space here but, yes, you'd think so but there are many parents around who simply try and pass on any responsibility they can. Council said it could be made our fault for being open. We had one kid run over and injured going home- not in the snow - parents blamed school for not teaching enough about keeping safe on the road. Another cut his leg on a hurdle in a race and we got blamed for not telling kid the wooden cross bar could hurt him if he hit it. These were both 11 and 12 year olds. You couldn't make it up. I'm very happy to be retired. Plus I have more time on the bike
