Soon to get my 2019 sp2 and am already thinking about weight saving. I baught her specifically for the 194kg wet weight, she has a Akro ( system with the valve ) and tail tidy ( which I hate but could not find one with a standard tail ) so about 190 ?? Now. What else can I upgrade to save a few kg ? Am thinking of redesigning the exhaust servo ( am an electronic engineer ) shold be able to halve that weight.
I have a standard tail to sell if you want it. Has to ship from the UK though. Great bikes. Perhaps lighter wheels could help? Remove rear pegs?
No rear pegs on the sp2, also has thinner walled subframe, so have to be a very light passenger anyway sp2 has the forged wheels, have to go carbon fiber for lighter, and then heard cracking a problem, want no part of that Anyone heard of lighter / better/ more stiff mirrors ? How heavy is the ABS complete ?
Nope do not plan to track it, well maybe just to better riding technique but not race of any kind. Given F=MA reducing weight is best mod anyone can make, and I like to do things propper What weight would I like ? Obviously the impossible 180kg wet, with all the street features intact including cooling fans ( but they def can be lightened by at least 1kg maybe a lot more. ) I suppose should look what the HRC kit includes, no interest in the engine mods, but might be some light bits which can take inspiration from. I have looked at designing lighter ( and better )exhaust servo, radiator cooling fans and bracket, smaller cooling reservoir, but need more ideas
I have a 08 sc59 that’s 169 kg wet and road legal but to get to that is pretty extreme, it was originally pb magazine’s last project build that I’ve took further, every part is either titanium, carbon fibre or ceramic including the forks and discs, it gets very expensive to loose weight.
Will run fine on one radiator fan. I've had 1 failed fan relay for years, loads of city use with no problems. ABS removal must be the biggest saving.
Yea know what you mean (cost), thats why started with a sp2. Ok I think your guy to talk to, 169 is not something thought was possible, very interested to see what it takes to get there Can I ask , which parts give the biggest weight rediction for least cash, what is the best bang for buck ? Being an engineer, and having some contacts in china ( factory prices in china have tanked, should be same with carbon fibre ) maybe can reduce the pain
Thinking more along lines of replacing fans with quad copter items, 3d print the mounting , dc-dc to feed the motors ( bet the blade still using that huge old iron piece of crap assembly at 12v ), just off top of head should lose 1kg +
Pretty much every bolt and spindles are ti including the fuel tank, wheels are rotobox boost with sicom ceramic discs, forks are ceracarbon ceramic and carbon fibre, hrc subframe with custom front subframe and zx6 single headlight, lithium battery, Kevlar bodywork, termignoni ti headers with hawk ti can, cut down loom with no ignition barrel, standard rad and fan but I have a race rad to go on soon, rizoma integrated indicators so no rear lights and numerous other parts.
I don’t know the weight difference but the metzeler racetec’s I had fitted were quite a lot lighter than the Bridgestone’s I had took off.
Yea Not a fat guy, 11.5 stone 6ft, ( actually thats fighting weight, I tend to vary a few pounds ) Would love to be shorter lol, especially on a blade.
I’d start with titanium as the amount of carbon won’t make that much difference. I lost a good few kg changing nearly every bolt and spindles to titanium, not cheap but oddly satisfying lol the spindles will make the eyes water if you can get them?
