Hi how many of you have told insurance about a ecu reflash, I am thinking of having one done on another one of my bikes. So I rang insurance to see if it would cost anything extra for the modification, they said they would give me a price after it was done which I thought was funny and they could charge me what they like after.but they said you should tell them about it, I thought I would ring them just to make sure because they don’t want much excuse to not pay out in a accident. Interested to see what most people do!!!!!!!!
I've never bothered telling them about my remaps. They say you should but how do you know when you buy a second hand bike that its been remapped anyway unless it comes with the paperwork! I could tell by how this current blade was running that it had been done but it came with nothing to say it had! It's personal choice I guess and I do tell them about other mods.
Firstly ......I'd argue how on earth would the loss adjuster guy even know where to start on finding out if the bike had a re flash! Secondly......I've never declared a single thing in 23 years of riding!! Maybe that's a risk on my part but in my mind they're just not looking that thoroughly at bikes after a crash or if they're stolen and never recovered what difference would it make anyway?? Be interesting to hear who has had a claim refused for not declaring modifications??
You might have to be careful with some performance mods that are easy to see. I had get my QS off a crashed one before they came to collect it as it hadn't been declared and its one that's classified as a major performance mod and it would have been easy for the assessors to have looked at the declared list and spotted it wasn't on.
Again I'd say .......how hard are they actually examining these crash damaged bikes and let's be honest that is the only time one of these acessors/loss adjusters would even look at the thing. Even then chances are its some kid getting paid 18k a year who hasn't got a clue......probably just looks at it and says 'yep....its a write off ' I dont know I'm just being cynical
I very much doubt anyone could tell you it’s been mapped and I certainly wouldn’t offer that information, I know on the panigales it comes up on the dash with racing or evo which indicates it has an up map but pretty sure newer blades don’t do that and the older analogue definitely won’t
Hi thank you for your reply’s, I don’t think I will have it done it’s too much of a risk without telling insurance. I have spent a lot of money buying this bike can’t see point taking any risks . It was never a power gain I was after just a smother throttle response. I do agree they may never check it but one here not not talking that change, thank you all for your thoughts.
Have a look at the rapid bike evo, won’t add any power but will do exactly what you want. It adjusts the fueling as your on the move, just fit it and ride mate
This is the first bike I have ever declared some thing And that’s only because it has a full akrapovic system and if it got stolen I would want the extra cost
I’d double check they will give you the cost mate, as most will pay for a standard one as a replacement. I declared every mod on my last blade 7k in total and when the paperwork came through every mod would of been replaced with a standard part even though some would of been more expensive than the upgraded part
On one site you were allowed 5 mods that were not classed as performance enhancing and it did not affect the premium
I've got a theft claim going through at the moment. They called & asked if my Akrapovic was performance enhancing or cosmetic. "Er, yeah, cosmetic only." It wasn't stolen from home, but they have asked for photos of the inside & outside of my garage. I asked why they didn't want these when I took the policy out, but they didn't answer. Told me the claim is on hold until I provide. Markerstudy Group via Bennetts. Never again!
Any wriggle room for the bastards to squeeze through to get out of their responsibilities. I’d send them a picture of the Tower of London.
Take photos of the outside at night, and of the inside with the door closed! I would guess checking it is a brick/concrete garage and are looking for a get-out. Last few times I have taken out insurance they have asked me to confirm that it is a brick/concrete,breeze block one and not a glorified shed. One thing I am always aware of when getting quotes is which company the broker is placing it with. I stay away from companies/brands I have never heard of as I expect them to be on a paper thin margin and will look to avoid paying out.
Interestingly the latest quote I had, mentioned the "garage overnight" bit but there was no stipulation about it being brick. Mine's wooden but substantial, walls of good thick timber. I read somewhere recently that they can no longer just presume the customer knows what to declare if the company doesn't ask the right questions. I think that came up on the White Dalton site.
They do tend to state brick or concrete garage construction on the reams of small print, but when it is taken away from home this does seem to be irrelevant
I sent them a photo of my neighbour's garage from the outside. They insisted on inside but the garage is well cluttered. I explained that I am working away from home, so the garage is being used as a storage area, and that I've got some tidying to do when my assignment finishes. I'd only valued the bike @ £4k, but still expect them to come in with a stupid offer. When looking for a replacement I couldn't find anything as tidy for anywhere near that money. It had just been serviced, K & N air filter, brand new Pilot 4's, Tsubaki chain & sprockets. New front & rear pads, loaded with R & G kit, heated grips, Scottoiler etc. I can see the insurance Ombudsman or FCA getting involved! Whatever they offer, I've £1k excess to come off it.
