I'm with MCE too. I dont think its a case of worrying about the premium going up a few quid. The important thing is that everything is declared and straight so that we are not giving them an excuse to void the insurance in the event of a claim!? I'm no expert in this field, but I wanted to make sure that fitting a yoshi R77 to my bike will not jeopardise my insurance. I phoned MCE and they said that if its purely cosmetic and does not increase the performance of the bike then they just make a note of the mod and there's no increase in premium. If there is a gain in performance, then they may increase the premium...
phoned them just now she said as long as its E approved or road legal and doesnt give performance gains it is fine but in an accident they would not replace it. i dont think a slip on increases performance enough really to warrant any extra premium. i didnt mention the power commander though
There was no mention of needing to be E-marked or road legal when I phoned them! It just goes to show that they can be as vague as the want because they just dont care. It's only when you need to make a claim do they sit up and look into everything in details, hoping there is some way they cen get out of a pay out. I dont think the Yoshi R77 is road legal, but there is nothing on it to say that it isnt road legal. Some cans have "not for road use" or "race use only" etched onto them, but the Yoshi has nothing. It all seems a bit pot-luck to me that though!?
I wrote off a 600 a few years ago which had an Art race can with " not for road use " stamped on it. Police said nothing at the scene and my insurance never mentioned it when they took the bike or after they paid out the full price i insured it for. Like said above " don't think they care "
MCE are a right bunch of dodgy buggers. I insured with them initially, when I got my paperwork through they stated my bike had a load of security fitted that I had never mentioned. Then they couldn't insure me. Took over a month to get any money back, and only after contacting MCN. I would take everything they say with a pinch of salt because their sales people really do not have a clue, I got told something different everytime I rang up and came to the conclusion they will say anything to get the sale, even if that means your not fully covered.
At £244 fully comp all mods declared, I am happy with MCE im 31 with 5 yrs NCB They told me as long as the bike power does not improve by more than 5% it was not a problem. only catch is the bike would be returned to OE spec if repaired and they would only pay out (full price for year 1) and market value after that.
That's a good price... how much is your voluntary excess? What happens to all of our shiny extras if the bike is written off? Do you get to salvage the parts that are non-standard? When you say 'repaired' are we talking a minor off with a bit of damagae and they would remove any non standard bits and give you the bike back completely stock?
Yes if it was a minor off. E.G. The can was damaged they would replace it with an OE item and so on, I would be able to keep the removed aftermarket can. If it was written off depending on the Cat, I could buy it back I guess and salvage the bits or remove the kit or replace them with the OE kit. Total excess is £500 Hope I never have to find out !
Dont know about any of you guys but ive had a major headache with my insurance this year, before the blade i had a 999s, i sold that, went and picked the Blade up and when i rang to change over to the blade the bloke on the phone said they wouldnt insure it as it didnt have an alarm fitted, thats funny because the 999s didnt have one fitted yet they insured that. So i asked him what i was supposed to do as i was 150 miles from home with a bike i couldnt ride, he said you will have to cancell current insurance (and pay £60 cancellation fee) and start again, he said he had looked and found me a really competitive quote for £380 i told him to shove it as i had found a qoute on go compare for £189 fully comp. He was trying on me thinks. so i cancelled paid the £60 and started again. Then 3 weeks later in MCN there was a page on the major insurance companys not wanting to insure high performance bikes to carry pillions, so i rang my new insurer and no i was not covered to carry a pillion, which is no good for me as my Mrs loves it on the back of the blade. when i sorted the policy out i stated pillion cover but alas im well and trully shafted. Aviva seem to be the main culprits for this so guys check who your underwriter is as you may have the same problems. So its back to sqare one again, £55 to cancel and start again steve
Jezus, what a load of shyte Talk about being shafted with the poo stick. Let us know how you get on when you finally sort it mate Carl
I cannot take pillions and I'm with Carole Nash! Done me a favour really but the missus/kids are well fecked off...
Kinda still on topic.... Can anyone tell me which Akra slip ons are available with decat? Do they have 'not for road use' written on them? Does the only 'road legal' version retain the cat? thx
what year is your bike mate? 08 plus models have no choive but to decat. 04 to 07 slip ones normally retain the cat Akropovic do a road legal and a not for road use model
Mines a 2011... I think Akra put the cat in the 's' bend of the link pipe. What is the difference between the road legal and not for road use model?
The difference is mainly the 1 pictured above with a sports cat is road legal and the race can has no cat just a straight throu s bend
