Can anyone please advise. I’ve picked up 04 Fireblade none starter. It’s been kept in a garage and it’s not been started since at least 2014. I’ve changed the battery, ignition comes on but the fuel pump isn’t priming. The bike has an alarm fitted with a Honda alarm fob. I’ve fitted new batteries to both key fobs but it’s not turned the alarm off, I’ve held down both buttons for over a minute to try and re sync it. No joy. I’m thinking the alarm has an immobiliser fitted hence why the fuel pump isn’t priming. Can anyone help?
Hi and welcome to the forum. No idea for the alarm, but do you know if it was functioning when the bike last ran? Only ask as it could be a red herring - a lot of people end up disabling the alarm as they drain batteries and cause lots of other issues. Try checking the kill switch - its a recognised week point and it could be the terminals are just corroded
If you have the FI light then start it up, keep the engine running and put in neutral, put the sidestand down. Then count the long and short flashes. If not you would need to remove the LH fairing to get to the diagnostic plug.
if either the kill switch or the bank angle sensor is faulty, then the pump would not operate. Have you checked them? I expect your bike to have HISS. So is the key fob for only an alarm?
Had both these problems a while ago - alarm first then fuel pump. Can't remember if the immobiliser killed the pump but as Boothman says rhe alarms get flakey with age. When mine started playing up I figured better doing without than running the risk of of it cutting out while riding. Have sent you a Personal Message. For the fuel pump you want to check that the pump relay is getting 12v on both the black/white wires with the ignition on. ...or just cut the crap and go to the probable root of the problem. Under the right-hand mid panel is a taped-up block with the capability to cause you no end of grief. Here's a piccie of it: This provides juice to all the other things that you're likely to end up checking, (kill/tilt switches and the relay) so is the best place to start. Getting in to test the tilt switch is a pain. BTW, that initial wiggle didn't solve the problem after all. Go on to the next page for what I had to do to really sort it. P.S. Here's a copy of the manual in case you don't already have it.
Grooveski’s advice regarding the yellow block is spot on. I would advise that a comprehensive check is carried out here as my visual and probe test without taking it apart to inspect led me away from this being the cause of my no prime. Have you lifted the tank and fed the pump supply connection directly with 12v to see if the pump actually works ?
That’s alarm fob look like an old datatool as Honda wouldn’t of made the alarm, worth a google from the brand around that age as might give a clue?
Honda Averto. Fob looks just like mine. I've got the manual for it here. I'll take some pics and get them up. Y'know it didn't cross my mind ''till now but the other loose connector in my gremlin box might have been the feed to the alarm. It's all still in place. Should try plugging it back in and see what happens.
Could you explain how your alarm is behaving please. When you turn your key to the on position do you have a red led illuminate briefly next to the HISS.
Lol, flicking through the manual there just reminded me of of my first run-in with the immobiliser. During the service I'd fitted the new fairing kit, whipped off the footrests and gone single seat... ...and forgotton to transfer the alarm contact switch over which was still fitted to the pillion pad. BTW - when you do crack it and it fires up for the first time - don't freak when it sounds like a bag of nails and the tickover is waaayyyyy too high. That's perfectly normal - give it a minute. My RR5 had also been sitting for nine years and had my dad not warned me I'd have crapped myself and lunged for the kill switch.
Should really have mentioned earlier but another possibility for the fuel pump problem would be a duff pump relay. You can test it with a battery and a multimeter (which I did while going through the kill/tilt switch testing rigmarole). Stick the relay number into google and you'll find a pinout. ...but it'd be easier to just swap it for the headlight relay that's right beside it in the relay box(behind the left mid fairing panel). You don't need the headlight to fire the bike up and the chances of them both being duff are slim.
The red light goes off when I turn the ignition on, the red light on the fairing keeps flashing. No alarm going off but the indicators keep flashing.
