Hi folks, anyone one here got a 2022 1000rr-r with engine paint corrosion problems? Bought the bike from honda two wheels in November and haven't had a chance to ride it yet but i have noticed the paint is flaking and bubbling on the engine. It has 2600 miles on it and is immaculate apart from this and the rear shock is rusting. I spoke to the previous owner and he said he never rode it in bad weather and had kept it in a heated garage. I spoke to the salesman i got it from and he said to take it through for the mechanics to check it over as its still under warranty but he warned me it might be due to previous owners negligence so might not be coverd under warranty. Just wonderd if anyone else had any issues with theres? I've had a few newish bikes over the years and haven't seen this happin before. Any input or suggestions would be appreciated. 20231221_102147.jpg 20231221_102147.jpg 20231221_102147.jpg 20231221_102209.jpg 20231221_102224.jpg 20231221_102219.jpg

Very hard to tell from photos. But can happen with aggressive cleaning products not being rinsed off properly. Have you tried soaking it with wd40 or gt85 ect and wiped down then washed off?
Obviously this is not going to fix paint coming off.

I haven't tried anything as this is how i got it from the bike dealer. The paint is actually blistering around the side if the engine aswell, pretty poor for a year old bike i thought. I have a feeling the dealer wont want anything to do with it though

Did you view it in person before buying? If not remote selling protects you and you can reject the item be it bike, toaster, games console, etc

I was actually pissed when i bought it so never noticed it when i was in the showroom. Had been on a 3 day bender after a Family bereavement. I never noticed it untill the bike was delivered the following week when i was sober. The rest of the bike is like new so thats why i cant understand why its so shabby looking on the engine after 2600 miles. its blistering under the paint on some parts aswell as the peeling

From a trading Standards guide it says:-

An older motorcycle with high mileage may not be as good as a newer motorcycle with low mileage, but it should still be fit for use on the road and in a condition that reflects its age and price. Fair wear and tear is not considered to be a fault. A trader must not mislead you - for example, by telling you the motorcycle is 'sold as seen', the motorcycle must be of 'satisfactory quality'. The description, price, condition of the motorcycle, fitness for purpose, appearance and finish, safety, durability and freedom from minor defects are all important factors when considering quality.

I bolded some bits that could apply to your case. There's also the 30 day clause about refunds although the dealer has the right to deduct a sum for the use the bike has had in that time. Personally I think you have a leg to stand on, although it sounds you were probably leaning against something when you bought it :D:D:D.

That's shocking! Gobsmacked that's been caused in 1 year.

Hope the dealer has it back off you.

Thanks for sending that info over mate i thought a bike being so new wouldn't have had such a poor quality of finish especially being a honda, i can only try as the warranty runs out in april 2024, i haven't even riden the bike since it was deliverd. Its been sat in the dining room until 3 days ago as the mrs needs space for xmas day

Haha no comment on the leaning against something ‍♂️

I'm hoping so mate but the way they were talking i got the impression they weren't intrested. The chap behind the service desk wouldn't even have a quick look at the photos to give me his opinion on the matter. The bike cost me 14500 so i personally think a year old bike with such a low miliage shouldn't have these issues

The rest of the bike is mint, bolts etc are all like new so im assuming they cant be blaming the previous owner for using in winter etc.

You make enough noise and I'm sure they'll do something. Good luck.

Looks like salt corrosion, who ever owned it before you obviously didn't wash/clean it after every use.
Give it a good clean and treat with ACF50 after its dried is my best advice, Honda won't warranty that as it looks like it's down to user error, obviously not you.

Thanks for your advice on the acf50. i did speak with the previous owner and he said it wasn't used over the winter but who knows? Looking at the rest of the bike you wouldn't think it had been as its like new

I agree with the opinion that Honda won't give you any satisfaction but the dealer is the one you need to go after if you think it's worth it.

Your prob right mate, just wanted other people's opinions on the matter. It's the only thing that lets the bike down

Does the dealer have another RR-R for sale? You might be able to take a small hit and try and get a good deal on an exchange?

Wonder if it's been an ex demo bike before the first owner? Sent out for test rides in any weather etc. Although I presume the dealer would have to be the 1st owner for that to happen.

I've had a good look through all the photo's now, and staining around the back of the engine by the rear shocker, is exactly the same as riding in the winter with salt on the roads.
Hope you get something sorted out with the dealer.
Just going the check my bike now, however, I don't ride in winter weather.

It could well have been an ex demo but i wasn't aware. The log book does state 2 previous keepers although i was under the impression the chap i bought it from was the first registerd keeper.
