A tad disappointed with the response on to this post, it's all about reducing the cost of safety that as a biker should be number one priority.
I hope more forum members have signed the petition.
    Moan over :)

Thanks brad nice one. I did it and forwarded it to a few places.
Suprised it hasn't picked up much momentum.

All VAT should be scrapped. Those of us that are old enough remember when it was brought in FOR LUXURY ITEMS ONLY.

I'm not, but I agree that it's not only unfair to tax safety equipment, but it's also unfair to pay tax on items with money that you have already been taxed on.
This week for example I paid £240 to tax a car with money that that the HMRC had already taken 20%.

For what its worth, I tried a similar campaign about 15 years ago to have VAT removed from all approved protective clothing in the same way that crash helmets are zero rated.

The argument was that it would reduce the cost and encourage riders to wear decent protective gear all the time and in turn would reduce A & E demands, personal injury claims, lost days at work and, and, and.

I was at the time considered one of the experts in the protective clothing field along with my background and training CV (even manufacturer's were contacting me after I appeared on BBC Fake Britain as an expert) but the Government still said No despite admitting that I had put a compelling case forward.

It is the same as when I was on the committee looking to get black visors approved. Government does not like bikes, they will do nothing to support our lifestyle.

The only way VAT will possibly be removed is if riding gear becomes compulsory and to be honest, do that and you will have the marked flooded with cheap knock offs, even though the CE mark is a bit of a joke anyway pending the new standard that is being worked on as we speak.

So I wish you well, but don't hold your breath.

Been there, done that got the video.

Does anyone believe that if they removed VAT from the price that manufacturers wouldn't just hike the price up?

You should blow all your money on tax free items like crack and heroin.

Fancy sharing some of your compelling points for this please? Could probably do with the ammo if I ever need to try and sweet talk my way out of a ticket :D.

Also, as someone who carries a clear visor....what is the Police's stand point for this? Is that a get out of jail free card if you change at the roadside or can they still give you a ticket?

My closest was being stopped for speeding and he told me to lose the visor. I was able to show him the clear one I had with me and he just shrugged and let me go - with the feckkin ticket. That cost me £400. and 6.

You're wrong Lozzy. Just before they repealed it. The bugger in front with the flag was dead out of breath but then I was doing "slightly" over 100. Did you have the Wheel ooop where you are by then? :p.
