I currently have michelin pilot power 2ct's fitted to my bike and am needing to change both front and back. I am quite happy with them and I've always had Michelin tyres, I was going to change the rear to a 55 profile as this seems like a very popular change but have a couple of questions to you guys who have done this. First off how much does it raise the rear of the bike? and also I struggle to get rid of the dreaded chicken strips and still have 6mm or so tyre that has never touched the tarmac and a couple of my mates rip the piss about it so will these stips get bigger or smaller with a 55? And finally I've just seen Michelin road 5's on special at only £185 for the pair but they're 50 profile and they're £309 for them with a 55 profile rear so that has me swayed with sticking with the 50........help me decide folks
I'd take the deal, and ignore what anyone says. Road 5's are great all weather tyres (if thats what you want).
I've just taken a pair of R5s off, they were great. A step up over the Bridgestones I had before. Particularly in the wet, a cat's eye had no effect, they just climbed up the wet metal. When new the front turned in a treat. I've fitted Metzeler RoadTechs this time, but only because MCN said 9/10 for the R5s and 10/10 for the RoadTechs. Admittedly though, I don't look at price, only what's the best chance I can give myself, re. not falling off!
I had Road 5’ with a 55 profile, bike tips in a lot better and a bigger contact patch on the sides but harder to get the strips gone.id go with that tyre and profile and tell yer mates to fuck off
55s makes the bike more aggressive on turn in putting more grip to the front I've found , only about 5mill higher at the rear .bike generally more responsive. Don't be concerned about chicken strips, just look at most Ducati's they have the biggest and there not bothered can't speak for @raphael not seen his
I went straight to a 55 on blade and never looked back. Currently on s23s which are really good tyres
Mine are huge mate as when I get to the last little bit I have a habit of going under Lorry’s ask @Lozzy
Find a smooth road and run them at track pressure. The increased contact patch and heat will sort out the chicken line.
power & power 2CT make the bike very agile and easy to lean, you'll find it difficult to match this with other tyres specially not pilot road
My blade had the pilot power 2 cts on it. Thought I loved them and then got the pilot power 6's. Loved them more. Then just switched to dunlop q5s and they are my new go to. you got a steal on that pair though bro. Enjoy them and rip them up fast and on to the next.
55s make you tip into a turn quicker but at the expense of acceleration. I changed to 55s for track days and it makes the bike far more nimble. If you want to get rid of your chicken strips do some track days.
Will do mate, although we're moving house in a couple of weeks and I can't see me getting a chance to change them soon. I just had to get them because they we're too good a bargain and I've had a few bikes with road 4's and loved them.
Congrats on the tires, it always feels like you got a new bike with each new set of tires. I got a set of power 5's installed on mine two days ago as well and I just want to ride more. Went from a 190/50 to 190/55 rear and it changed the bike completely, too bad I will not get the chance to get them up to temperature this year.
Oh don't worry it will be this year, probably in winter though but as this summer has been like winter that's another reason the road 5's appeal to me because when I had the road 4's previously I still went flat out in the pouring rain and cold and felt confident
