So I ordered a new motor that was supposed to be a 2023 with 5k miles on it. I was shipped the wrong motor and instead got a 2019 with supposedly 4k miles on it. I started to inspect the motor which for one was much dirtier than the motor I ordered originally, i also took a look down at the valves and saw quite a bit of carbon. Im not too familiar with what 4k miles of carbon buildup would look like, but this certainly seems excessive. I have some pictures of it attached. The front Sprocket looks OEM and appears to possibly only have around 4k on it. I'm wondering if its possible to get this carbon build up in 4k miles?

I'd much rather take a few hundred back for the inconvenience and keep this motor, instead of doing the full return and dealing with those hassles. Let me know what you guys think. IMG_1096.jpg IMG_1097.jpg

Mine aren't like that and my 2015 has 27k on it now. It is always run on she'll power though if that helps

Yeah, im getting alot of the same opinion that this seems like ALOT of build up for a supposed 4k miles unless its ran unbelievably rich, has some other sort of issue, or was kept under 4.5k RPM for the entire 4k miles lol. The motor itself just seems filthy and gunked up for 4k miles as well. I just dont know whether to keep this motor or fight to get a return with paid shipping. Its the wrong motor so I can get it back with a free freight return anyway, but i'd rather keep it if its genuinely a 4k mile motor, just torn on that part. Its a well rated Ebay business, hes got no reason to ruin that rep and lie about the motor. It just seems like wayyy too much build up though

Return it. Might seem like a hassle now but will 90% save you more hassle further down the line when you'll kick yourself for not doing it. Seems like your gut instinct is already there from what you write..

Ended up going this route yesterday. Got things packed and palleted back up and dropped off. Definitely saved myself a potential headache and I get full money back. Only problem is my original motor i ordered is now with someone else, and he has no other clean ones to work out a deal on. Looks like im back to square one on searching for a good deal. Thank you for the input!
