Thats what I have written at the bottom of mine, when adding the HRC letters is makes the lower number and letters on the plate a little bit smaller and looks better, I once got a plate from them without any writing underneath and didn't like it as much.

    HRC rules!! lol

load of bull from mr copper there
there are no points for incorrect size plates . i know i have been done 4 times by the cops up here .
one even went to court (the reg number was electronically flippable ) no points given .just trying to scare you.
the worst that they can do is make your bike go onto a "q" plate ,but they have to have done you for it a few times before they can do that.
anyone here old enough to remember when cops used to solve crime ,instead of just collecting tax ?

I have an 8x6 on mine, that's what I've always used and never had a problem. The way I see it is if your plate is ttp size, it's tempting providence and inviting a 'pull' by the feds, with the resulting closer inspection of your bike looking for other illegal fitments. I guess they won't have to look very far for most of us. I think 8x6 looks okay, and I've stuck a reflector on it. PMSL at megawatt's comment about NT lol.

I have an 8x6 and no problems so far, but after a previous post on this issue I am thinking of going to 7x5 and see what happens. My Tag is Midlife Crisis 2. The reflective button shown has since fallen of and I have yet to put a new one on. I don’t really mind the button as it makes it look at bit more legal at a quick glance.

Further to some of the comments regarding what should be on a legal plate. I have just been to have a look at our SLK which has a legal 4x14 plate, yep perfectly legal with the BS number in the bottom right and the postcode of the supplier in the centre at the bottom (all be it so small you can hardly read it) Standard car plates are 4.25x20.50. Clearly you can’t use the smaller plates unless you have a cherished plate with fewer digits, in our case 3 letters and 2 numbers

Here is a website outlining the DVLA's rules for licence plates:

Legal number plates DVLA rules for display

It states that all legal plates must carry the relevant British Standard mark (currently BS AU 145d) & also the name & postcode of the company who made the plate.

    Hi All,

Got my 8 X 6 plate, no holes drilled. I don't have a drill, I guess I can borrow one from a friend, but my question is...

Will my plate fall off if I use the sticky tape they sent to me? I feel like if I ride at motorway speeds that it may just get ripped off the bike!! (I have an R&G tail tidy so only place to stick the tape is on the top edge of the plate.

Would you strongly recommend that I get the holes drilled??

    Thanks,

    J.
