After a lot of thought, I finally sold my other pride and joy today :(

I know a lot of you ain't really into cars, but I love to have a descent car to drive and cherish, but with the missus just losing her job there was only one option and that was to sell 4 wheeler.

I honestly hated watching it go, but it was either that or the bike. Now I have to go and search for a banger which I know I'm going to hate driving. Plus cheap reliable cars seem to be a thing of the past.

See this is where my problem is mate. I can't just buy a normal car. I enjoy driving 'almost' as much a riding bikes, and I love things that are pushing limits. I'm sure it's either OCD or something to do with the engineering.

I guess I just need to curb things till things turn around financially.

I'm gutted to hear your story Col' and, at the risk of not making you feel any better, I know exactly where you're coming from. I keep thinking about the advantages of a small, cheap, road tax free oil burner then instantly thinkf uck that for a game of soldiers. I haven't driven a 'normal' car for about 25 years now and can't see me going back until I absolutely have no choice.

I'm constantly surprised though of the abundance of cheap, swift beemers around. There's a lot of car for not much outlay if you can swallow their thirst.

Col, I gave up good cars ages ago. Cost wedges to insure and tax, petrol consumption is crap, and forever looking for quiet places to park in case they get dinged up in car parks, or broken into, not to mention scratched with keys. These days, I run a kangoo dci, treat it like a skip, and costs peanuts to run, and my business pays for it.
Rather have the bike to lavish my hard earned on, and other nice things instead now. It's only a tin box, and good holidays more than make up for it dude.

That's another problem in it's own Ken. I average around £12k miles a year commuting. I was spending £??? a week on petrol alone. It's going to have to be a diesel with a little poke to it.

I know the feeling with cars I was going to buy one of the really cheap to run little cars like a Fiesta, yaris etc but ended up buying a 1.8T golf GTI

What about an Alfa 156 they are going very cheap and more reliable than you would think. This one is very cheap
    Alfa Romeo : alfa 156 1.8 veloce

I've been looking at the likes of a vw golf gt tdi, and BMW 3 series diesel. Never thought of a jag or a alfa though. I'll take a peek and see what kind of price they are coming in at.

I think i'd be looking at a skoda fabia vrs, as it ticks quite a few of your boxes. Cheapish to buy, diesel, reasonably quick, good on fuel and can easily be chipped to 180bhp!
Out of interest what have you just sold?

I own a garage and work on cars for a living.......the last thing you want is Alfa Romeo!

It will keep your local garage happy, but will crucify your wallet!

Was talking to Jeanette about what I posted about about not having a 'normal' car since we got married and she laughed that I'd never had a normal car.

    'what about my mk1 Escort?'

'the one you put 1600E running gear in.'

'Okay, what about my Sunbeam 1300?'

'was normal until you found an Avenger Tiger donor in the scrapyard and gutted it'

I'm beginning to think the FireBlade is about as 'normal' as I'm likely to get.

Hi mate. I had a civic type r, 2 cars ago. Didn't like the engine as it had no guts. I know they're meant to be revved but I've got too much mechanical sympathy, and I love and engine with torque.

Hi Andrew. I was actually looking at the fabia vrs, only thing is they hold they're price a little too well now as everyone is looking for a small fast diesel now. I just sold my Subaru WRX Sti 06 plate. It only had 40k on the clock.
