@ Ashblade, every year I have a load of near misses with deer, last year nearly hit a stag which was massive. I can understand why your friend is cautious, really thought I was in for major injuries today or worse. I ride this particular road most weeks and have never seen deer on it, the rest of the rote has a lot of deer, just bad luck, but expensive bad luck.

Glad I am here to write about it though.

Where were you when it happened, I ride a route from Dereham to Thetford to Mundford back via Watton and I know there are many deer but never seen any when on the bike.

    Hi Shameless,

Same route I do quite often. This time though I went from Brandon to Thetford to Watton and then to Mundford. It was on the road from Watton to Mundford about two miles past the base. They ran across in front from the left to the right and onto the verge, then suddenly just turned and ran back straight into my path. No foliage on that bit, just fields, usually see them further along near the Swaffham road end.

It was a great day for biking too, pity it got cut short, now off the road for a while while i muster up some parts.

Fez, I chickened out, as it was the only one I made an offer then thought about it for a while and decided I would rather pay the full price than risk being beaten to it, especially as a new one is around £630. Thanks for the nod, am watching the footpeg but dont want to pay too much as new rearsets are being fitted next month and unless I get all the parts I need I will be off the road until then anyway.

Shit Ex, I was just going to post what a good day I had at Rockingham and planned to end it with, "hope everyone enjoyed today and got home safe" think I will leave the last bit. We have chatted about this before, I see many deer but mainly just before dawn on the way to work. Plus the two that we think are living in the over grown area towards the back of our field of course.

Gutted for you exfire, never good to read of incidents, the main thing, you managed to write this post this evening. I'm sure with a little help from everyone things to repair the blade will come quickly.

I agree with most comments made on this thread, deer are becoming an ever increasing hazard on our roads. Not just motorcyclists are involved either, but most certainly one of the most vulnerable, It's especially more perilous in your area.
As freedom of choice states most deer he sees are on the move just before Dawn. Usually on the move for their grazing? Then they would just chill for the day:cool:
Things I remember is my old charge hand used to moan about the deer he stalked in Dumfries, during warm spells they try to get as much altitude possible during the day to escape the midges, Now Suffolk doesn't have many hills as far as I recall? This is why the deer are on the move more during the day in "flat country" they try and away from them as they can't climb to cooler temperature where they are less of a pain.
    Be careful out there. :)

Bad news, I rode that yesterday and you would'nt expect deer there. The worst bit on that road is the two bumps you dont see just before the left hander going towards Watton, If you need any help with the repairs send me a message, if I can help I will

A really big thankyou to everyone, today has been s*** but you have all made it easier.

It could have bben worse, so glass half full :)

May need some guidance on fitting the replacement rad, especially as the old one has shifted position a little, I expect the mounts may have moved a bit but won't know until it starts to come apart. Just sweating that the fan is ok, the rad and fan are a bit skewed :(

    Thanks again :)

Gutted to hear this mate. But as said, it could have been much worse.

Hit a badger reasontly, done my side fairings and belly pan, so not as bad as yours by sound of it, and was really disheartened with it - damage, cost repair, hassle, bike not looking mint etc...

Well I cobbled it back together at the weekend (hardly noticeable now) and went out for a blast, will be expensive and time consuming sorting it all out but yesterday reminded me it'll be worth it.

Shit now pal, but will soon be forgotten and the grins will be back in no time.

Took panels off today and removed radiator. I was worried about the fan as it had been pushed into the rad but it seems ok. Rad is very distorted and has breaks on side and in centre. Still need to take top fairing off but will wait till replacement arrives. Found a small but deep graze on the swing arm Grrrrrr, must have been where the footpeg hit it, will have to live with that though.

Now should have all parts ordered apart from the coolant which I will sort out today.

Thanks again to everyone for all your help and comments. Nige

You don't need distilled water anymore its ready mixed ... you are better to go to a Honda car dealership and get it from them its much cheaper and its just the same.... just much sure its Hondas own brand

Glad you're ok as well ...bikes can get fixed alot quicker
