Fitted the all Black Gilles VCR rearsets today, was a simple enough job but a few things made it slightly harder for me mainly the quickshifter ... The Rod supplied with the kit is 170mm long due to the fact that the gear change lever position is moved back, locating on the adapter provided. The my OE setup gear change rod including the quick shifter is 205mm so I have to lose 35mm and the rod supplied cannot be cut down, lucky the rod I bought from HM could be but its right on the limit. I thought the kit was supplied with the plug for the brake switch which is built into the rearset but you have to cut it and splice in the OE cables, not a problem as on ebay a brake light switch is £8 so will get one for if I ever need to refit the OE rearsets, then I used some self sealing tape to tidy things up. Also it did not say in the instructions but on the brake side you need to keep the spacers in where you bolt the rearset to the frame otherwise the exhaust mount touches the swingarm. Otherwise it was not to bad to do and I think it looks a lot better, the ride position is a little more aggressive as you would expect but I prefer it as I have short legs, and there is a lot of adjustment to play with Of course here are some pics of them fitted
very nice Jamie! That bike looks great!!!! Dont really know what colour brake hose to get when i do mine.
They blend really well against the Akra. Look like they've always been there. You say a more aggressive riding position Jamie. Is it throwing you forward at all or just straightening your legs out behind.
Just a little more cramped and legs back a touch, not a great difference but it is noticeable, however its not bad I like it, but I know steevebetts is contemplating getting rid of his as he feels more comfortable with the OE rearsets, I guess its horses for courses !
That is really looking nice now fella. anything else planned for it ? I dont mean this in a bad way but what is going on with that rear brake line. has it ended up like that because the master cylinder is now set much further back
I know it seems obvious but do they do repsol orange ? if not or you want to be more understated, I like the carbon effect lines on the repsol blade
Body shape makes a huge difference. I'm a shortarse but my legs are long for my height, so I have to reach for the bars, which puts more weight on my wrists than I'm comfortable with but my legs get cramped up just fitting them on.
Yep need to look at that later, its moved the MC back and its cramped to say the least, have removed one guide to try and sort it out but it either has a big loop at the brake end or but the MC and looks arse, maybe its just to long now ? will keep you posted if I can find a solution !
you are better off with it a bit long jamie. It doesnt look bad. I had to remove the fixing bracket nearest to the MC with the OE line too. Did about 50 miles on the bike today and I think I am happy with the VCRs now. They just look too good to take off anyway.
Your rearsets look great Jamie, really go well on your bike. Will be getting my Rizomas fitted soon, I find the OE ones a bit too forward for me, so hoping the adjustables will allow me to get a better riding position. Bike looks great btw.
I dont like the way you have moved the brake line Jamie. You MUST have excess at the MC end to allow for the movement of the swing arm. Pull the slack back to the MC end mate.
Cool steve just did it to show the difference it's already back to the way it was It looks weird but it works, it's just the line is a tad to long now the rearsets are back an inch or so
Whats wrong with the blue bats lol Maybe carbon, would that look better for you ? , will talk to Jonny see what he can do , need to measure up first
No the little buggers (my 3 boys) kept me going till 8.30 and I just could not be bothered after that, maybe tonight thanks for the info though Steve as always your a star will post up when fitted might do a how to if i can remember to take some pics
