Thought I'd re visit this for the surprising number of members who remembered and shared their memories of the insanity that was rallying in the '80's, and for those who had not experienced it but showed an interest in the last thread. The BBC in it's infinite wisdom is showing a documentary on the subject at 9:00 pm on Sunday night on BBC 4. Madness on Wheels BBC Four - Madness on Wheels: Rallying's Craziest Years
Cant say I remember that. But, not wanting to digress too much, I remember world of sport on the other side. Schwantz, haslam, rainey etc transatlantics.... and watching escorts, minis, capris etc part tarmac and part dirt. Was that rally-cross?
Yep, that's the chappie. In that case Blags', treat yourself on Sunday night. Put on your bobble hat and dayglow nylon puffa jacket, get your flask out and learn why F1 drivers were pussies back then.
Good shout kendo nagasaki - I'll put this on sky plus... Few lads at work will be pleased of the prompt too
No spoilers, I promise, but that was brilliant. A lot of people I've had the pleasure of meeting on there and sadly a few I've had the pleasure of meeting but didn't make it. My brothers been texting me non stop, "Do you remember that?" and "we were there when that happened" and now he thinks we should get a 6R4.
Quality programme, men with big balls. Walter Rorhl, what a driver, i think there is a vid on utube with him doing a rally somewhere where there is a camera facing forward & a camera watching his feet, insane footwork!
The proper days of rallying for sure. This is what The Goodwood Festival of Speed is so good for, getting to see the cars, bikes, riders and drivers up close. Awesome event.
