Having watched my nephew drop his bike on Sunday and suffer no damage at all due to the R&Gs, I think its time I fitted some.
Really don't like the idea of cutting the fairing, but there is little choice.
Anyone done a "how to" on fitting the R&Gs to an 08+?
I know the idea, but i would like to see photos of someone doing it, including fairing removal as i have not had that off before either.

You get a threaded spike with the kit you put into the hole where the engine bolt comes out of, you lean in the panel so it marks it then that's the centre point for the hole cutter.

TBH if you have not even taken the panel off before I'd get someone else to fit them!

You can easily bodge it up if you don't get it spot on!

I'm pretty handy with a spanner Benn so that's not a problem.
I just want to see how to do it that's all.

Top tip drill a small hole and check with a pick or wire to see if your on target.. :) Oh and if using a hole saw watch the padding does not get wound up into it!

I have just fitted the to my rr5 and to be fair it's very simple once you get started, the original engine bolts have a hole straight through, I dabbed a bit of paint on the end of a round ended Allen key passed it through the hole to mark the inside of the fairing before you remove it, pilot hole from the inside, 28 mm hole from the outside
Half hour each side should do it, be confident when drilling the fairing can smell fear?

I'm thinking the same due to the amount of pals I've seen idrop their bikes this year. Going for R&G or Rizoma on the forks and swing arms, but just couldn't bring myself to cut the fairing so giving these a try. Worked ok on my mates R1 when he had a spill.

I wonder of there is any chance the new R&G's for the 2012 that are no-cut will fit the 08-11? May be worth a call to their tech dept. I know the general view is that no-cut's are no good, but the R&G guys know their onions, and for £250 they have likely made them equally as substantial as their cut versions.

I know you don't want a debate on the pros and cons of crash bungs, but just for info I have decided against crash bungs this time round. I can see the benefit for on track where there is plenty of run off, but on the road there are too many things to catch IMO. Yes, they could certainly save a few pennies should you drop it on your drive, but then plastics dont cost that much anyway (i've just sold a full set of 08's for £425)

If you ring R&g let us know how you get on.

    cheers

Gutted and hate to say ALL the no cut sliders I have seen after "off's" have snapped at the mount! I have seen many many crashed bikes (my workshop) with both types, as much as I love the idea I would say they do little at any speed or even at a standstill from what I have seen. Crash bungs are a no win thing as with out them you scuff fairings and with them you stand some chance of getting away with just new bungs in the event of a slow fall but still have top drill your pannels to fit and remove them when you need to maintain, people dont like them on track as they can flip the bike over of they grip the turff etc.. I have them on my blade and have been tempted to get rid but feel if I do you know whats going to happen, if you crash at speed with R&G's the do fold up and do little to help other than add another £60odd to your repair bill. I have only seen a few where crashed big time and they have pulled threads from the engine mounts but these are TOTAL loss bikes, lets face it any crash is not good but the R&G's may save you £200odd if it falls on the drive etc..

Agree with all you say Arthur.
I only want them to save in a silly "drop on the drive" incident.

    I'll have my tuppence.
I did consider fitting crash bungs/sliders to mine, but to be honest I really can't see what they do to save the bike from being a total right off.
I reckon it's peace of mind knowing they are there to "save" your pride and joy, probably if you drop it on your driveway at 0mph they will?
The damage I saw to an rr7 last year that had "the best" crash protection fitted was still written off after 60mph high side.
On a plus side, the ones that came fitted to by gixer were mint for putting your feet up on when cruising :D

R&G crash bungs in my humble opinion are a must! I didn't particularly want holes drilled in my lovely new blade, but they are indispensable. My current track bike is a 675, had them fitted to the bike from new before i tracked it and they have saved my beloved Triumph 3 times. 1 low speed spill, 1 drop, and 1 low side at snetterton at about 50 mph ish. The crash bung and fork protectors were worn down to the bolts, and the cotton reel snapped off, but the main bike was completely undamaged, bar worn down bar end, and front an rear brake levers which still work just fine. I'll never be with out the little buggers.

oh well, although I tried to cancel the order they arrived so thought fook it, i'll fit em. Tbh took around 20 mins to fit both sides, 5 of that was making a cuppa. Not really into crash bungs period, but after all the guy's I've seen drop their bike this year and the little damage that's been done coz of them, thought I'd go for it.
