I wouldn't be put off mate, I'm just saying theyre slippy buggers until scrubbed properly, can't comment further until I've put them through they're paces but after Donington on the 23rd ill let you know if they hold onto the fast boys
Yeh mustbe taken in to account that this morning was bloody cold, igot there at 9.30ish and to be fair got home without incident.
Al my mates think the same . Al gone from pirelli to sportsmarts and love them . Flatstick high sided his bike during the scrub in with pirellis so all tyres must have this release agent problem . The biggest benefit to Sportsmarts is that people are reporting 4k to 5k miles out of them where every pirelli iv seen has lasted half that
I reckon any tyre will be similar on scrub in but IMO I've never felt any as skippy as these Dunlops. That isn't to say anythings wrong with them, it's just part of the manufacture process and until you've got em up to temp and gradually scrubbed I guess it's just time to use the brain and right hand carefully. The real test of the tyres will be at Donington on the 23rd for me, should be scrubbed by then and I'll also drop em down to early to mid 20's and test out the ntec technology claims... I'm sure they'll be fine. Oh..... Then they're taking me to the ring.... Now that's a test
I was one of Steve Thompsons race bike mechanics working for Peoples Bike.Com at the TT a couple of years ago , we were running Dunlop GP211's with ntec , The dunlop guys were walking round the padock checking pressures , they were setting them with tyre warmers on , Front 31 psi Rear 22 psi
I also think some tyres from the same brand can be more slippery than others for what ever reason as part of the manufacturing process. I have no real life experience but seen 2 BT023's fresh off the shelf delivered and one will appear more glossy and have a more greasy feel than the other.
Same here Damo! New Sportsmarts on, nearly spat me off a couple of times an i was really takin it easy, really slippy when new, great now they're run in but I thought jeez... what the bloody 'ell!! Put it down to diesel on the road at the time but since read quite a few reports of it happening to others with new Sportsmarts
Very interesting to read this thread. As some may know i got spat off mine last sept, 40 mph left hand bend low side, I too put it down to diesel on a poor road surface, but i'm now not so sure ?? Had a new rear sport smart on ( 150 mile ish part scrubbed ) . When i was rebuilding the bike and refitted the rear wheel, i inspected the tyre and noticed the 10mm chicken strips were extremely shiny and greasy .... except the part where it let go, where there was an aggressive 3inch abrasion. So i would also advise caution when running these hoops from new, I would have thought 150 miles of not so conservative A road scrub-in would have been adequate, but obviously not..... ps.. they are now fully run in and i'm LOVIN-EM............
your not wrong mate!!! its sander then burn outs then 2000 miles of not going about 4 tho revs On a serious note if peeps are binning there bikes cos of these tyres why are they so good and why dont dunlop do somert about it ?
I had sportsmarts on my Busa. No problems at all. Just the usual take it easy for 100 miles and make sure it is scrubbed right to the edge. I sold the Busa having done 3500 miles on the sportsmarts and they still looked new. I chewed a BT016 in 2000 miles!
Guys a destroyed a bike years ago due to being a knob with new rubber and it wasnt pritty. Always with new rubber get the bike on the paddock stand and select first gear and get a p60 grit sand paper and very lightly rough them up, then you can relax. Is this Gay...................................................
Hey Arthur, when you fit my Sportsmarts, can you nip up the road on my bike for a hundred miles or so whilst I have a cup of tea or two, and I'll hope to see you back at your place safely so I can ride home with a modicum of peace of mind. Thank you muchly JD
