Can't believe some of you are still scaremongering about the oil thing. Hopefully the OP will do his own research and make an informed decision.

I agree.... but if you put these immortal words into Google '' Honda Fireblade 2008 Oil Burning '' ............. then prepare to spend the next 5 hours reading !!!! If you did buy one from either a dealer or privately then you will never know if its a '' burner '' until weeks/months later, then its too late. The idea of returning it will be a distant memory of course given Honda even agree that 1 litre of oil every 1,000 miles is ok.... this is part of the reason ( but not all) i have gone backward and purchased a mint 954.... i am waiting for Mr Honda to sort himself out and own up to this hidden issue. I would love a 2010 Repsol Blade but am still, at the moment, trying to work out how i could guarantee to buy a bike that does not burn oil.

Well i say fook the oil burning issue i mean cmon most peeps me included do hardly any miles ie sunny sunday good blast 250 miles if its rainig ie uk so who cares about oil consumption not me!

O and my blade is a 2011 has done 1540 miles and is 3rd oil change is on the way at 2500 miles so fook oil ;)

I binned a 2007 57 blade laat year after 2 years ofowning it FANTASTIC bike error of judgement and gravel my fault!!!

I can honestly say my 011 feels leaps beyond and stronger in every point than the 07 its untrue ;)

Haven ridden both bikes the RR8 is a much much better bike in every way. Mine so far hasn't used a drop of oil. But then I've only done 559 miles on it!

I don't care about the oil consumption so long as its within the tolerances given by Honda.

I can understand that if doing very small annual miles, but i am covering 10,000 miles a year, if you include the 4 litres for the annual service....... your into the 14 litres of oil every 12 months arena, that is going off Honda tolerances. I would not expect that if covering 40,000 miles a year in a Scania HGV.

Its your decision, just try your very best to buy one without this issue then selling it on will be a lot easier.

I ended up buying the RR7 in the end for 2 reasons - the first was the price.. I found it hard to go past this bike given the extras it has fitted etc

The second was that I knew the previous owner and he cradled the bike from new. It is immaculate with very low miles and totally unabused in any way

The oil burning in the newer RR8s is slightly worrying but not a show stopper
