If that's the case mate maybe you should take a close look at superbike tyre construction, take for example the supercorsa bsb's one of the best high performance road tyres money can buy, BUT they fall apart way before the ware bars and what's more the carcass of the tyre is very very thin, they are prone to fail and I have asked them about it on a number of tyres but they will NOT comment! Now it's sad that anyone should loose life for whatever reason but trust me the more you know about ALL tyres the more you will realise how little there is between life and death.. as I say around 2mm of meteral on a BSB at max ware limit! As I say some tyres should not be plugged for reasons of safety others are fine.
If i may add my tupence. One would assume that each tyre manufacturer would have approved safety guidelines on repairs to there brand .Example Michelin may approve a plug and system just for that make alone.
As far as I know Carl is quite right few motorcycle tyre manufacture have any guidelines anymore for puncture repair with tubeless tyres. If anyone thinks about getting one done make sure your fitter knows about the types and construction of modern tyres they do need a special understanding.. the same goes for fitting them! If you google it many pro tyre centres offer mushroom style puncture repair for motorcycle tyres and one would assume they are approved.
Arthur my tyres are diablo rosso corsas. are these the same as the supercorsas or would you say they are safe to plug
From memory mate they are a heavy construction tyre unlike the bsb's IF the nail?object is straight through the tyre and in he centre area of the tyre then I see no reason why it can not be plugged..
Thanks. there is no object left in the tyre that is visable so i am unaware of what caused it. it might become apparent when the tyre is taken off
Check he valve for cracks they should be inspected when the tyre was changed but get overlooked, also heavy valve caps cause cracks on the stem of the valve too the same area that perishes over time and leaks! Inflate the tyre and cover in soapy water you will soon see where it leaks.
Thanks giv i will get a new valve fitted but i know thats not the issue now as i can hear air coming out from where the mark on the tyre is
Get it plugged, ride gently to start and check it a few times ... The decide wether your going to run it until you can afford a new one or run it until it's done!
Not reading all the post but if its in the middle ish and done right you will not have a prob ive had a few done on diff bikes!
I had a BT014 plugged, was in the center line with a nail on the R1 as it was a week old, had no problems did a trackday at Castle Coombe with no problems at all and I never gave it another thought. Got a screw in the bt016 that replaced the 14's just of the center line 35 degrees ish and no one would repair it so bought a new one. Let them make the decision for you, if they can they will if they can't trust there judgment Also who spends all day littering the roads with f*** ing nails and screws !!!!!!! it has cost me a fortune over the years !!
Fooooooking Horse riders mate !! Iv had 3 blody tyres punctured now by nails from bloody horse shoes . Keep em in the friggin field i say !!
So just got back and its been fixed. when the guy got the tyre of he found a screw head sat on the inside of the tyre which had caused a little damage to the inside but nothing major. just have to go out and do a few miles now and hope i can forget about it
