Just had e mail from Grantham Honda saying that my bike is due for service and must be done to maintain its warranty, I bought the bike from them in August 2010, with one thing and another it's only got just under 1700 miles on the clock, and last service at 700 miles, just thinking to go ahead or not? As guess will cost a bit to basically change the oil?
Thats a tricky one, I guess it depends if you want to maintain the full manufactures service history or not. If you do it leaves you with very little choice really.
The second service is more a visual check should only cost about half hour labour and gets a stamp in the book and maintains warranty. What's the harm.
Done 4 k on my blade, had the 600 mile service then a year. the 6 months thing in my eyes is balls. Honda build quality and they just want your money every 6 months. Triumphs and Ducati's have a better service interval. If like me your ride 6-8 months a year I can't see how Honda want you to get a service every 6 months. if you get me
If it were me (and I liked you ) I might be tempted to take your bike in the workshop, stamp the book and off you go. Otherwise £22.50 please Sir. Obviously if anyone from Honda is reading I'm joking.
I agree with Remal, its just bullying tactics from the dealer! I only had the first service done by the dealer on my last Blade and still had a warranty job done on it after 1year & 11months
Reading this I was thinking Bolx it's mileage or 12mths what ever comes first. Check the manual and no it's 6mths That's ridiculous I've never had a vehicle with a service interval that short. I'd work on the basis on the mileage or 12mths and have a bloody great row if it came to a warranty claim being refused.
It's not the dealer specifying the service schedules they are acting on behalf of Honda to maintain a very expensive and strict franchise agreement in order to provide us with the bikes we desire. Honda provide many mechanisms for the tracking and administering of scheduled servicing and if the dealer wishes to collect the maximum bonus (which many need to survive if solus) from the manufacturer then these procedures need to be followed, along with proof provided. Depending upon the relationship with the dealer then yes warranty work could be completed without any servicing being completed as it's a tick in the box on the warranty system to say to Honda that the service schedule has been followed, obviously far from proper but doable. Honda place trust in the dealer network to make sure the correct procedures are followed. Some serious cases where personal injury or third party claims may be an issue is where service history would need to be provided along with invoices to back up the dealer stamps, or if a major fault occurred that could trigger a DVLA monitored recall.
I know Yamaha are 12 months or 6000 miles which ever comes first. ETA - That's on bikes over 125cc anything 125 and under is 3500 miles or 12 months. Gets very confusing when your multi franchise.
my triumph street triple r was yearly or 6000 miles, my blade will soon be due its yearly or 4000 mile called 1 local dealer he said £150 so will phone the other and see what they say.
I'd ask how they are breaking that £150 down, it's wrong, unless your bike is 2 years old and they have quoted a coolant and brake fluid change. Still steep mind.
