I have noticed that if when cleaning the bike or when I fitted the gilles gearbox shift rod support that if the rod is pushed in slightly I cannot select any gears at all, If I pull the rod back out I can select the gears again....... !!! Can anyone else test this on there 08-11 bike and see if they get the same problem or do I need to take the bike in to see whats wrong ! Thanks
Hi Jamie, I had a similar problem on my 2000 CBR929 Fireblade, get it to the garage ASAP!!!!!!! The gear lift rod has either snapped or is in the process of snapping, mine snapped while I was riding and was unable to change gear. You should not be able to push or pull it at all!! Unlike other bikes where the lift rods are made of titanium, the lift rods on Hondas are made of steel The part is around £42 from Honda and is an hours job to fit. Good luck
do you mean if you push the selector input shaft in(the shaft that actually goes into the engine).and does the gear lever basically move up and down with out engaging anything,but pull it out and it you feel it mesh again? if so,it's more than likely the nut on the end of the input shaft that has come lose/off (inside the engine unfortunatley).you haven't whacked the shaft or selector shaft have you,or had any engine work done?. you can get around it temp.but will need stripping eventually.
Exactly as you have just described scooby and I have done nothing to it, only noticed because when I fitted the shaft support i must of moved the rod and I could not get it into gear, should this be a warranty job ? Its going in for its first annual service today and I will discuss it then. If they dont is this going to cost me a packet !!
Just managed to download the Service Manual and it seems obvious that the small metal tab which stops the gearshift spindle moving off the gearshift cam star has been bent back/snapped off allowing it to disengage Don't know how it has happened can't remember it getting a knock or me putting a pushing force on it to bend it out ? but guess it will have to be fixed. Bugger
if you have a bit of tech knowledge it's quite easy ti fix,i suspect the bolt has come loose off the end allowing the spindle to move.problem is,is where the bolts gone,it should have just found it's way into the sump and stayed there. an temp fix is to get a bit of tubing that goes along the gear spondle to your gear selector knuckle,stopping the shaft from moving in.(haven't explained that too well but i'm sure you know what i mean when you look at it. how do i know?i've got the same problem,i ca measure the tube i've used if you like so you can find something+cut it to the right length if you like? i'm waiting till the end of year before i fix mine as the engine will be out for it's refresh.
I understand what you have said completely and thanks its a great idea, it's in for it's 12 month service, I have explained to the mechanic and he recons it should be a warranty job, so will find out tomorrow, if not I will do the tubing so if you could measure up that would be great, however I do have gilles shaft support fitted so might be different ? To late But it would be hard to prove that a support has damaged the shaft, I know I did not put any force on the rod it just slides over and it did this before that was fitted with std rearsets ! Just did not think it was a problem until now I think the new shift rod gets tapped in by my foot more than the OE did.
it's just up there next to the thingymajig aswell as my riding,spelling isn't my strong point either .but to be fair the "i" is next to the "o" so it's an easy mistake

Waiting for Honda to give the go ahead for warranty job, they think the same as me bent tab or lose bolt holding tab, it's not causing an issue at the moment but would like it sorted
