Driving over to my mates for a BBQ and a Ducati 848 pulls up next to me at the lights. Say to the wife "nice bike". 30 seconds later he's grabbed to much front brake as some arse hole woman pulls out without indercating over the bars and the bike does a 180 on the grown. :-(. I blocked the traffic behind luckily the riders ok but the bike was in a bit of a mess. Help him pick it up and I was gutted for him. Stupid driver not indicating or checking mirrors but no contact so its all on him unfortunately.

Keep safe out there everyone those Sunday drivers are everywhere.

848 what a shame. Glad the fella was ok and that’s the main thing I guess. Interested to hear if the wifey gave you any grief, every time we see or hear of a bike accident L gives me the old "this could/will be you sooner or later" line. Wait till the TT and she will be on a major “you are going to get yourself killed if you keep this up” routine. Yes I know it’s just because she cares and it is only reinforcing what we all know.

I lose count if the times I say the bikes got to go, another near miss, another piss poor driver

Then I look at the bike and realise its what I love, it's part of me, I have lost several friends over the years and each time has been tragic and each time I have come home looked at my boys and said that's it !

My wife knows the risks, tells me what I already know and I do what I have always done......... Go out on the bike :D

Feel sorry for the guy, thank god for first year gap insurance ! Maybe he will see the light and buy a blade :D

Jamie mate you have hit the nail on the head. I have had many a PM chat with a member on here about this issue, one very creepy time when we both had an issue about his safety and said member left the blade in the garage. I have also have two boys and had a break from bikes when they were young but it’s in the blood, you can fight it but it doesn’t go away. I think I have mentioned this before at some point. Every time I cock my leg I have this “will this be the last time, will someone do something stupid, will I miss judge a corner, will I get home in one piece” kind of mind game. Few minutes into the ride, tyres are warming and all thoughts of dread disappear along with every other day to day worry. Is it only me and said member that have those thoughts?

I appreciate and understand the danger and it's consequences and yes it crosses my mind from time to time but far from every time I go out and never have I said the bikes got to go due to it. I agree with the day to day worries disappearing mind.

    IMO :)
It's a shame to hear or see anyone binning their bike, sadly as we all know too well motorcyclists are one of the highest accident rate in the motoring world and will receive more publicity?
Personally I can't subscribe to the what if, because in my experience that shit takes over your life, if you go out with the it could be me today attitude it's time to hand the licence back.

Leaving this on a positive note, the front brake on a Ducati 848 are awesome :D

Gary, I hear what you are saying and it doesn’t take over my life just a few minutes each time, if it was to much for me I would jack it in and buy a Morgan, I was just interested to see if others have the same feeling. I have ridden bikes since I was 16 and I am not about to stop anytime soon I hope.

What did Elanor Roosevelt mean when he said "do something every day that scares you"
    Did he have a 1000rr?
I do agree Freedom, it's those little thoughts that keep us safe?

But theres a flip side to all this...................last year I has rattling the pearly gates.............fortunatly no one was letting me in so I,m still here hassling you lot but while I was off work I can remember thinking how gutted I would have been had Peter,Paul or whoever was in charge of them gates had let me in and I would look down and kick myself for giving up riding!............I,m a firm beliver that your destiny has already been decided............when your gone your gone..............so enjoy it while it lasts cause you only get one stab at life!

no mate not the only one. i find myself giving trips on the bike a miss and go off with family. have 2 boys both under five who are so daddys boys i cant go anywhere without them and when i do go out i cant wait to get back home to them. i would never be without the bike but most of the time just forget about its in the garage. i guess it crosses most peoples minds at time. my brother who,s 10 years older than me went without bikes while his daughters were growing up but now back on and sometimes rides like a man possesed when were out. my bikes far quicker than his but i find myself holding back even though i can ride when i need to. maybe in 5 or 10 years time i,ll get it back!!

Never crosses my mind about crashing or getting killed. Have crashed 19 times and broke many bones and all that. I truly believe when your numbers up that's it, no matter what you are doing. I've thought about the people who I will leave behind, but, I cant and wont live my life for others. It's mine and I will live it my way. It may be a selfish attitude...? Besides, you cannot think about stuff like that AT ALL when going for a ride, you need 101% concentration.
p.s. in every case I know why I crashed, so dont have any niggling doubts, which I suppose helps.

it's not the danger of the bike (read that as other road users) that worries me,i'm a big believer in what will be will be,i'm very aware of my (usually) surroundings and other road users and can usually read what they are going to do,also the oil/deisel spill doesn't worry me,again if it happens it happens, but what does worry me on the road, and this is 100% in my hands, is the likelyhood that eventually i will lose my licensce.for this reason alone i very rarely ride on the roads anymore, plus i dont get a lot of spare time with the amount of t/days i'm doing aswell.

    Nearly binned mine last night.

Police had poured way to much cement dust or something over a spill from crash that happened earlier in the day . No warning signs at all. Front wheel slide , pants filled . Lots of shouting and cursing

Oh well , I'll know next time

You were in the navy so long you'd need a ball gag and a tub of Plumber's Mate.
