Mainly ride in groups, used to go out with about ten of us, all average to quick riders and we had such a laugh, but the over time people progressed more than others and some wanted to go quick while others didnt and we all slowly stopped going out so much... Also experienced some pretty bad accidents when people have joined the group and tried to either keep up (at the front) or ridden dangerously which put me off big time. Now I tend to ride with my mate Bruce as I have total trust in his riding and we have a crack, recently been out with dave v and his crew alot and they are all top fellas and very good riders at similar levels which is cool. Don't mind a social day out but if got going to have a 'proper one' think 5 is about right and only with people you've riden with before... Not really been one for riding on my own in the past as for me it's sharing the experience and having a laugh, but my trip to Scotland recently opened my eyes to it and I thoroughly enjoyed some time to myself and escape from the rat run on what I love doing most - riding my bike!
Snap Prefer to be on my own but sometimes with a group, hey call me fickle. Group can be fun for the social side but also a ball ache.
That's why I tend to stay away from Helmsley at the weekend It's awfully easy to end up getting the red mist on the way home when someone comes barreling up behind you.
I've only ever been out with a group of upto 6 before, and find the going tough, due to different capabilities. Don't get me wrong it tends to be more of a relaxed ride and a bit of banter rather than the usual blast. I've also been out with a couple of guys that were way faster than me, and were only too happy to show me how good they were. Considering I had only been riding for 6 months at the time, I let them get on with their antics and have never been out with them since.
i know the helmsley TT is a bit of an iconic road around here but i simply dont know the road well enough to ride it fast, there is a lad who has a zx-6r who knows that road inside out and would shame even the fastest of riders
I enjoy a bit of both I ride in groups of 1-2 sometimes bigger groups but most of the time enjoy being on my own. Why? I can do what I want, when I want, without looking out for others
I like both, riding in groups is great fun, but I prefer to get up and out by 5.30am on a Saturday morning and go for a good a blast on my own. However I do think that, in a way, there is safety in numbers. Sometimes when I'm out really early I go exploring back roads, and think, if I binned it here, no one would find me for days. So maybe its better with two or three in the group.
Mainly on my own due to last minute decision to blow the cobwebs and daily grind out of my system. I used to ride a lot with my oldest mate Richard and we are evenly matched in terms of risk assessment and stupidity. Some Sunday morning rides with Darek. Great guy but I don’t know what happens to his brain when he slings a leg over his tricked 1098 and often prompts me asking him “at what point are you going to remember you have two small kids at home”. All in all I prefer to do my own thing at a pace that I am comfortable and relaxed with. Some times reasonable slow by Blade standards, and sometimes at straight to jail rate, but mainly somewhere in the middle. As some else mentioned if your not in the groove you can always turn round and bog off home.
Of course. You do all realise that the real reason that I say I prefer riding alone is because I have no mates, don't you...
I've got a ginger mate but he's done the decent thing and attacked himself with enough hair care products to turn himself blonde..........ish. It's no longer visually-offensive so we can be friends.
