well today i took delivery of an 'apparent' new in box, never fitted seat cowl from...******** (nameless until i speak to them tomorrow to see what excuse they give) :boxing:

well i though initially by looking at it it was maybe a touch finger marked but nothing more, underneath its got bits of writing on it and has clearly got some sort of brown scum/residue along oneside.... even that didnt put me off i tell you, oh no. :pleasantry:

So, seat off, remove hand strap thing and fitted it......Rattle? is it meant to do that? :nono:

Perhaps ive not fitted it correct, back of again, look at the way it slides in, and rattle rattle????? :frusty::frusty:

so being a man, at last resort i then read the instructions as admitadly i did yesterday while fitting my HRC screen and found them useful.

So from what i gather theyve supplied the seat cowl yes, they have however not supplied any of the other oarts im meant to get with it e.g - rubber this and that, pads etc etc

so frankly its not brand new, and currently useless unless you like rattles......and i dont!

so, has anybody purchased the bits im missing seperately? If so whats the damage and ill ask them to refund that amount?

    sods

oh, hers a pic of the underneath....hardly 'brand new' is it

Is it a honda seat cowl ? Looks like a copy as the honda 1's are normally the same colour both sides. I may be wrong thou.

If however it is a copy then they do not normaly come with the rubber parts. Wel mine didnt anyway, I made some up from a motocross number background vinyl .

If it is a Honda cowl then no idea where to even start looking for just the rubbers

Well im lead to believe its an original honda part, it came in an original honda box but thats not to say theyre not ripping me off.

Its actually black and white on the reverse which is why i went for it as id not seen them before, however perhaps theres a clue in itself.

But no, got it in a honda box, with instructions but no rubber fixing parts etc

mmmmmm Dont hold me to it but every honda cowl iv seen are the same colour throu and throu.

The seller may have originaly purchased a copy cowl then a honda cowl further down the line and popped the copy into the honda box for the sale ?

I got my copy cowl to fit tight by cutting a few strips of vinyl to protect the seat fairing as i fitted with out vinyl first and the ratteling cowl was starting to leave rubbing marks .

All good with home cut strips of vinyl.

Mine is genuine and underside is just flashed over not painted properly like outside

Also has writing on like yours. That's just quality control. If you look at fairing panels theyre the same too. Maybe the guys from factory initials or something?

It's meant to have a 3 or 4 rubber strips to fit on the lip Of the tail unit to stop rattling

Also to make a tighter fit I put a little electrical tape on the 2 location lugs at the rear of the cowl.

Well I've emailed them so we'll see what they say.

So it's basically just adhesive backed clear rubber I need?

    Yes and some rubber strip

The venture shield stuff goes on the front and back part of the seat unit where the cowl rubs when fitting

The black rubber strip goes on the raised lip on the luggage hole

I need some more of that rubber actually but not sure where to get it from

I've had 3 OEM seat cowls from honda (bundled in with new bike) and they have ALL rubbed the tail fairing down on the left side (as you sit on it).

Both times, Honda have said it wasnt fitted correctly and replaced the entire tail fairing and cowl. fair play.

But be warned, unless fitted 100% and zero rattles, it will rub your paint - and seeing as you bought it independently, Honda will probably not look upon it well.

Same as the others say .Cowl looks ok/ writing and lack of spraying inside ok / you are just missing the fitting kit which is a very small bag of rubbers for the rim around where the seat comes off and the clear film for protection .After that it is a great fit but way to pricey but you have to have .

Does anyone know if the fitting kit (clear stickers and black rubber strips) are available separate?

Anyone know a part number? I wouldn't mind a spare

Hi mate wot you need is some strips of rubber that has a groove in the middle basically you put the rubber over the tail unit side edges. not the cowl. You only want couple of bits on the side or it will be too tight for your original seat. something draft excluder thin foam padding would do..
    hope this helps..

Yeah I've already got some fitted but I wouldn't mind some more

The clear sticker isn't a problem as I could just cut some ventureshield to shape

Hi flatstickHRC, I got HGB Honda in Ruislip to pull up the cowl on their PC, I cannot remember the actual numbers, but I know that it listed all the fitting parts seperately, and all had their own part numbers and more importantly, prices.

Saying that I stumped for a eastern copy through ebay and padded it out with door draft sealer (foam strip type of thing) and it's fine.

I also believe OE ones always have 'Honda Racing' printed on them, not sure though.

Just bought a seat cowl used from ebay and need these rubber parts, so thanks for the part numbers. Ling's Honda has the parts, so far from my searches...
