So i have 2 bikes, a Red RR5 has a full Akra system, the Repsol RR5 has a standard system. I want to be able to swap these over quickly - hopefully over 2 evenings. So: Take off the Full Akra System from my Red bike Take off the Full system from my repsol RR5 Put the Akra System onto the Repsol Put the standard exhaust on to the Red RR5 Any pointers? before i start tommrow? I was told the standard Exhaust has a valve in it that is attached to the throttle - what happens to this on the Respol when i attach the Akra? and ont he Red Rr5 Anyone looking for something to do, feel free to come over to give me a hand.. ;-)
it's a alot easier to get the headers if you remove the rad,but not essential. if you go onto the akky home site,it has a schematic diagram+and a fitting instruction file on PDF,shows you how to remove the standard kit aswell. http://www.akrapovic.com/en/Motorcycle/Products/Pages/Product.aspx?BrandId=7eb20b7b-271c-47b2-b9ab-b3c94fbe56e4&ModelId=ceca35e8-0ff4-4656-bd3f-ddd65a7b0b40&ModelYearId=cb449dbd-d7ac-40b0-921d-e7d71ab56bc7&ProductId=2141&ProductFilter=Active&DisplayName=Honda CBR+1000+RR+ S-H10R5L-HWC+Racing+Line+(Carbon)
thansk m8.. I guess this: http://az79640.vo.msecnd.net/akrapovicbppmultimedia/5880071afa5d46ec9142b11e27e4736e.pdf http://az79640.vo.msecnd.net/akrapovicbppmultimedia/3930230d930f4eb68c723cf628535e1f.pdf
The instructions are for a RR6 - would the same process apply to the RR5? http://az79640.vo.msecnd.net/akrapovicbppmultimedia/62d8695f91a9441abc0f3142a1169d5b.pdf When i select rr5, there is no user guide.
At least with the RR5 you shouldn't have to worry about the O2 sensor in the headers In order to undo the headers you don't need to remove the radiator, but you do need to displace it to give yourself some room. It's also worth putting a bit of card on the back of the radiator whilst working, to stop you skinning knuckles Don't forget to buy new gaskets for the headers. Don't remember anything in the exhaust attached to the throttle, but will have the servo flapper in the end can. If you look on your red RR5, you'll probably find two loose cables tucked up somewhere. These need to be attached to the servo in the original exhaust. Can't remember the procedure, but the servo has to be set to a particular setting. Hope I've helped
Thanks Ray, The Gaskits, are these for the headers? is it just one gaskit per bike? Will get these ordered today..
are the instructions similar to the RR6? http://az79640.vo.msecnd.net/akrapovicbppmultimedia/62d8695f91a9441abc0f3142a1169d5b.pdf
You need a gasket for each head mate, so four gaskets per bike. Make sure you drown the header nuts in WD40 or similar anti-seizing fluid. There is also a gasket at the other end of the headers that goes into the link pipe, but if you're replacing the whole system you should get away with using the original.
There maybe some slight differences but essentially I'd say the fitting instructions are the same mate. HONDA CBR1000RR Install Akrapovic Fullsystem in Singapore at Team HKL.www.teamhklracing.com - YouTube HONDA CBR1000RR YOSHIMURA RS5 FULL EXHAUST SYSTEM - YouTube
Lol, you'll be fine mate. Just take your time and if it helps take plenty of photos for later reference. Trust me mate, if I can do it you'll be fine As I said before, if you can get hold of a Haynes manual, they are helpful.
I knew they weren't cheap as I replaced them all on mine when I fitted a set of US original headers. Have you tried Cox Honda in the Traders section for a price? I can't see anything on the Akra instructions about the header gaskets/sealing rings. But in the trusty Haynes manual: 'Remove the sealing ring from each port in the cylinder head and discard as new ones must be used'. 'In order to help with fitment, dab each new sealing ring with a small amount of grease to hold them in position'. It's entirely up to you mate, but what I didn't want when doing mine, was to put it all back together and have the headers blowing
when i,ve changed full systems on my own bikes i don,t replace the gaskets. just make sure they don,t fall out without you noticing. make sure your socket is a damn good fit on the 8 header nuts before you trying undoing them. the cable on the silencer link pipe is easy just make sure the pulley on the servo motor is back in its original place after youve removed the cables from link pipe before you switch ignition on. so check pulley position under riders seat just before you start to disconnect them. its all straight forward buddy just don,t rush it if your unsure.
pretty sure the akky systems dont use gaskets, taken mine off rr5 a lot and just fitted an akky to my 09,no gaskets. the header bolts only need to be torqued upto about 9 or 10 ft/lb.it's the springs that do most of the retaining
Took the akra system of the red bike today - took all of 1.5 hours.. The radiator did not need moving though helped little.. Hoping to get this on my bike Friday evening...;-)
