Nice to see blags, glad she's coming back together, love the blue tape The Chinese fairings good quality ?
Will have to let ya know mate. They look ok for the money, @20% cost of originals. The paints not 'as deep' if ya get my drift, but wtf can you expect? Oh, hang on...i expect them to be a cnut to fit and not meet up proper. We will see. Oh, and i'll have you know that's proper electricians insulting tape, that is.
Also dont worry as you wont be out on sun with weather you probs got till december for a sunny sunday
Right, nearly 8 oclock and I been at it since about 9. Disaster struck....twice. First off, the double bubble glue didn't work. Got the main fairing stay on, fitted the clock, fitted headlamp into nose cone and wrestled it all together......then just about every joint broke. Took it all off and tried again with superglue, same shit happened....then I went and trod on the fairing stay, which was on top of a ratchet, and snapped the twat in almost the exact same place as the one it was replacing!!! Aaarrrgghhhh....... A quick search on flea bay assured me I wouldnt get one for first thing in the morning. So no good then. As usual everything was going against me. Ho fukcing hum.... Undeterred, i'm not one for giving up, I decided to reuse the stay, its only 1 screen fixing missing, so will be right for now. I then plugged in my soldering iron and with some scrap placcy bits started to improvise plastic welding. Seems ok so far. The fairings were the expected bastard to fit, compounded by the fact if you dont have a photographic memory how the bollocks do you remember which bits need inserts, clip on 'nuts' or captive nuts. What a right twot that was. The paint job doesnt match the wheels. If the bike holds together i'll get them painted black in the off season. Fitwise, its not too bad at all. In fact surprisingly good tbh. There is just one part that doesnt quite match up, but I can live with that on a 7 yr old bike. It didnt get cleaned due to pissing rain at the time I wanted to do it. Also I still need the tyres doing. Hopefully tomorrow, and I also hope to give it a run and see if the plastic welding holds. Left the fookin camera at the girlfriends so will post piccys tomorrow.
Keep on it mate, as a rule plated bolts go in sight no plated out of sight, pop clips go inside of front panels, screw style pop clips go underneath....did you sort em all out...
Yep. Got it sorted mate. My head was up my arse cos everything was going tits up as per. Plus the time constraints i'm against, and the weather interfering with my schedule.....and its years since I worked on bikes, so forgot the basic golden rules, like a right gawp. But to be fair, i'm only a sparky.
Awe, man, I'm gutted the double bubble didn't do it's job I had high expectations for it. Your build thread is great, I just wish sometimes distance wasn't such an issue, because I'm sure there are loads of guys here including myself that would love to give you a hand rebuilding your P&J Good luck man for Sunday. Chin up.
Ready to roll mate. Would have blasted it earlier but my lid n stuff all at my house. Rebuild going on at girlfriends, cos she got a garage. Gonna blast it tomorrow, see what happens.
Appreciate that mate. Was worth a dabble with the double though. Dont think there is much out there to glue some types of hard plastic. Certainly dont wanna fork out loads for a clock. Will keep eye open at scrappers, someone bound to have a bust clock with the rear casing intact.
